TivoWebPlus - Showing all Now Playing in Search results ?

Postby martinveasey » Mon Jun 11, 2012 7:54 am

I'm getting to grips with TWP after being used to TW for many years.

When doing a forward looking Search for a program to record (UI / Search) the first screen works fine with a small list of matching program titles to select from. For instance, a search on 'Britain' (this week) gives:

Results
BRITAIN IN A DAY
BRITAIN UNZIPPED
BRITAINS GOT MORE TALENT
BRITAINS LOST ROUTES WITH GRIFF RHYS JONES

Clicking on any of these links produces a second screen, headed with the program name and series info (the URL is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/series/xxxxxxx). This screen has the desired information (Upcoming Showings) at the bottom but reproduces my entire Now Playing list above. This Now Playing is superfluous information for my purposes, fiddly to scroll through and takes some time to generate.

Is this expected behaviour? Can it be turned off at all?

Cheers,

Martin

Have you applied all the patches to TWP? Out of the box, TWP has issues with the AltEPG guide data - from memory (I could be wrong) that sounds like one of the things that was fixed with a patch by spitfires.

There's a link in my sig to the post with links to the discussion thread here where you can download the patches. The AltEPG 1.0d image version of TWP should be fine, IIRC.

Thanks mrtickle, that's very helpful - I suspect that you may be correct, however I'm not having any success with the patching. The reason for this is that I'm running a very old Tivo original image which has had TivoWeb and Plus installed by hand. As a consequence, it has no direct linkage to the AltEPG ISO as I hand wired the change to the AltEPG guide - my other Tivo (an AltEPG 1.0d) is working fine.

As I can't think of a sensible way of overwriting the image without losing recordings, I think I'll stop recording to the Tivo for now (I also have a Humax) and run down Now Playing via watching / tytools and then reimage the hard disk with 1.0d.

Cheers

Well many people including me use standard images. You can install TWP by hand and patch it just like you did originally. Or ftp the files from TWP directory in the 1.0d tivo and ftp them up to the other TiVo. I think reimaging the disk just to fix the TWP directory is sledgehammer and nut stuff!
There's a great piece of software called "Beyond Compare" which can compare files from ftp sites too (eg your two tivos, or tivo1 vs disk and then disk vs tivo2) - highly recommended and I believe there is a 30-day trial. You just set the 'top' directory to whereever the TWP directory is in each case, the contents underneath should be similar for everything except the missing patches.
