I then did the following ;

ping -n 5 192.168.0.24

Pinging 192.168.0.24 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.0.24: bytes=32 time=<1ms TTL128

Hi Pegasus,

I just thought I'd try send you a private message with an update on
everything, doesnt seem to be going through.
I posted on Saturday night how things went with regards
to IP addresses. I'm no further forward on getting the network working
for my new Tivo.

Back to the original issue that created this thread:

I swapped the Power Supply over on my original Tivos, this has not
cured my initial problem with my large capacity Tivo.
It remains unresponsive and now there is a clicking noise and a beeping noise coming from inside the Tivo. I am assuming the hard
Drive has gone dead (320GB seagate hard drive)
I'm sure you will know better though. That tivo was networking fine
till very recently.
So now I have one large capacity Tivo with networking that no longer
responds to the remote control or outputs any image to tv.
I have another large capacity tivo that currently won't connect to network for downloading Schedule but is otherwise perfect
And then finally a standard 40gb tivo without networking.

Any suggestions what should be my next move?
I'm assuming dropping the 40gb drive into the place of my potentially bad 320gb
Drive will mean the tivo that was networking may lose the ability to?
Hoping to have two fully functional Tivos if I can
Thanks for all your help

Can you expand on "any image".
Do you see the Powering up... and Almost there... messages when you switch it on?

Re #1:
there is a green light at the port on router.

Ok so that means your TiVo's networking is physically working. But we have no idea what IP address it is using. Hmm...

There is no sign of a TiVo with your serial number contacting the server, so either it hasn't been configured for AltEPG (so is still trying to contact Tivo Inc for data), or your router isn't allowing it access out to the internet.

You could try to 'ping' 192.168.1.100 which is an alternative address some people use for their TiVos.

Re #2:
The 320GB disk is a Seagate. Seagate have what we call the 'clunk of death' when they fail; which your clicking suggests. Not sure about "beeping" - I've not heard that before.

So it seems likely your disc has expired.

Hi Pegasus,
I pinged 192.168.0.100 and posted findings earlier in the thread. It returned an IP addresse ending 24.....whatever that was.

So my Seagate hard drive has most likely died then?
I connected another large capacity hard drive from another Tivo
I have for spares. Again no image coming from the Tivo.
To expand I mean no welcome screen or loading screen at all. No response from remote control at the front panel of Tivo.

I can't be sure of the health of this hard drive so I will plug in a 40gb hard drive that I know to be working . If again nothing at all happens,
Would that mean a bad board?
My Power supply is definitely a good one.

Would you suggest transferring items to another board to test next ?

Cheers

Aaron

Hi Pegasus,

My apologies I misread there. Hard to read on my phone.
I will have a go this afternoon and post my findings

Other tivo has had a hard drive swap and psu swapped.
Still the situation remains unchanged
Could it be a bad board?

Cheers

What "situation"? You are confusing me with swapping all these things around without a plan.

If you mean no picture on tv, then:
1) No clicking from disc/TiVo when you switch power on?
2) No "Powering up..." message on tv screen?
3) Does the red light flash on front of TiVo when you press a button on TiVo remote control?

Most likely a faulty scart cable, or tv wrong connection/setup.

Hi Pegasus,

I have two tivos with separate issues.

1) The one I've had years is no longer doing anything.
It just powers up but doesn't load in any sort of way
No powering up message on screen or any output
Whatsoever to the television.
Also the red light no longer responds to the remote
control.
Basically the lights are on but nobody is home.
I changed the power supply as it was temperamental before.
However that hadn't solved the issue of zero response
to remote control and no video output to the TV.
Definitely setup correctly and scart lead is fine as works on
My other Tivo unit. I also tried swapping hard drive
With another hard drive as seagate hard drive was clicking
And beeping although that hasn't helped either.
I have a 40gb hard drive that I know works, so will try
that later today.
If that also doesn't solve issue, would that mean the
Motherboard may be bad? That's my main question.
Cheers

2)The Tivo I recently bought is working fine apart from
The fact it won't connect to network for me to download
The programme guide. Previous owner said it used to
Download via a network

Hoping to get at least one if not both Tivos fully functional.

Thanks for all the help

Aaron

So, did you try the ping on 192.168.1.100 ?

I had a few attempts here with the results being repeated on
every attempt

I just Pinged 192.168.0.100
Result Below

192.168.0.24
DESTINATION HOST UNREACHABLE
----------------------------------------------------------
I then tried 192.168.1.100
Results Below

Request timed out

Then I fear you are stuck. Without the proper software tools it's going to be hard to configure that TiVo for network access.

It's running original TiVo Inc. program, which normally requires the disc removal and updating in a PC. You can configure from a networked PC if you know the IP address - but without an "ip scanner" you don't know what is its address. Alternatives (such as tempo changing your VM router's ip address) are not recommended unless you know what you are doing.

Unless anyone else has any ideas?
