IR Codes

Postby Alek » Fri Jul 15, 2011 5:52 pm

I have seen threads about IR codes for modern STBs and that is an important thing.

When someone has the time would it be possible to get IR codes for modern TVs so the peanut could control the volume.

On my old itchypussy TV all I needed , mostly, was the peanut. But now on a more modern Samsung, I have to juggle 2 remotes.

I know life is tough, but we have an inside toilet now and a colour TV, so if the peanut could control the tv volume I reckon I could lve out my remaining years in contentment.

The IR codes for volume are on a database (chip) on the grey peanut remote itself, not the tivo,
so you're stuck with whatever is on there.

As mentioned elsewhere the more modern "TiVo Glo Remote" is a learning IR remote, so can learn any codes needed from your existing remotes.

Easiest thing is to buy a US TiVo Series 2 remote from eBAY and use that. It has the latest Samsung TV codes on it, plus has a switch so that you can use the same remote on 2 TiVos if you so desire.

Baggsey.

You answered the question I was about to ask.

Is it the premium glo remote I would need ?

I do have the premium glo remote that came with my TiVo Premiere Series 4 box, but that remote does not have a switch on it to swap between different Tivos with different remote codes set. If you want to only control one TiVo, then a glo remote is the way to go.

If you want to control two TiVos, then look for an older TiVo Series 2 remote, which looks like an elongated version of the Series 1 remote, but has a little switch in the middle above the keypad to switch between TiVos. Look for TiVo Series 2 remote on ebay.com, and you'll find one. They are in the range of $15 to $25 dollars. I provided one to my in-laws in Harlow and it does the job on their new HD Samsung TV.
