Can you provide a little more information about what is going wrong?
mfs_ftp is installed as part of the AltEPG disk image so you should be able to use it to pull ty files off your TiVo.
Additional information such as which version of the image are you using, what's you network configuration (what network card, what IP address config), does telnet / tivoweb / regular ftp work? will also help understand your problem.

Vague recollection, make sure SmartFTP is set to only open a single connection?

1. I assume that you _are using port 3105 - and not 21?
2. You are transferring in binary mode, aren't you.
3. Are there any existing recordings on the new TiVo?

Memory's hazy, but I think you upload to the root directory, not the ty subdirerctory.
