Configuring a US Series 2 - question

Postby baggsey » Mon Aug 15, 2011 9:10 pm

I have a few old US Series 2 machines, unsubscribed. I would like to use one of them purely to monitor the UK ALTEPG TV listings.

If I telnet into the machine and add the "127..." line at the end of the tclient.conf file (and assuming that the machine id is on the list of machines allowed to access the ALTEPG server), will this be sufficient to allow me to download the UK listings?

Why not just try it? :) Unless the registration system throws a wobbly at the non-UK TiVo service number!

Highly unlikely that it would work, but why not just try!

Hmmm... this is what I found on oztivo:

I am very tempted to waste a couple of days on this but then again what is the point ? I cannot see any real advantages over S1 ... apart from the fun trying to make it work that is! :D

Hi,
Apologies for the late reply, I've not been around much during the school holidays, what with keeping the kids entertained and a commitment to over-due Home DIY enforced :)

The AltEPG server is capable of supporting the S2 but as we concentrated on S1 & 2.5.5 compatibility, there may be some issues or tweaks necessary on the server end.
I would also need to add your service numbers to the database as we reject malformed service numbers or numbers that do not conform to the UK format.

Regs

Dave - thanks for the offer of adding the S2 service number as an exception to the service number database. Do you want me to PM it to you, to avoid it being publically viewable?
Regards

Yes - I had come across the same Oztivo entry in the last few days myself, and was toying with the idea of enabling as much S2 functionality as possible, as opposed to just using a spare S2 machine to monitor the UK TV listings. The advantage of an S2 over S1 would be enablement of Multi-Room viewing(MRV) and Home Media Option (HMO) within the home network. Also, the later S2 stand-alone machines can record two programmes at once, of course (one via tuner and one via line input).

As I have 3 un-subbed S2 machines (single tuner models) sitting on the shelf , I might take a stab at it, just for the fun of it. I've modified DirecTV Series 2 TiVos in the past with Superpatch, etc., to enable MRV and HMO successfully.

The downside of the S2 is that I understand that it can only record and output NTSC signals , so a UK Freeview box that outputs NTSC would be required. (Looks like there are some free-to-air UK boxes that do that).
