Using Tivo with French TNTSAT system

Postby jc467 » Fri Sep 16, 2011 2:07 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to configure a newly acquired Thomson S1 Tivo to work with my French Strong TNTSAT box but I've reached an impasse and would welcome any pointers people might have.

I've adapted the instructions from here http://www.kitschcamppalace.org.uk/content/view/137/2/ and managed to get the point where all my channels are set up and I can control the set top box via the Tivo remote.

The problem I've facing is that although I seem to be able to download xmltv guide data using both tv_grab_fr and tv_grab_fr_kazer; and can use xmltv2tivo's writeguide to create slice files (which I can view using readguide) and binary ftp them to the tivo, I don't seem to be able to dbload them into the program guide.

Specifically, I'm trying the following after copying the slice to the tivo.

tivosh dbload25.tcl update.slice
tivosh fixup25.tcl
tivosh force_index.tcl
touch /var/timestamp

This seems to give no obvious errors (I'm guessing there's a log somewhere but I'm a bit of a tivo novice and couldn't find it) but doesn't seem to load any guide data that I can see on the TV setup or through the TivoWeb interface.

I've also tried using dbload30.tcl and fixup30.tcl but the latter fails on not finding database entries like /State/GeneralConfig, /State/MyWorld/DemoMode. Perhaps this is the root cause of why it doesn't work?

I'm tearing my hair out now hacking around trying to get it to work and I'd certainly welcome any advice anybody could give.

Thanks,
John.

If it was sucessfully loading the data, you would see the data one of the two ways.

The most likely problem is a series of typos - mismatching either the channel IDs or numbers so that the TiVo thinks all the data isn't actually for any of it's channels. It's a very easy mistake to make.

Also, in the config files that generate the slices, be careful to ensure you don't end up with stray spaces after commas and channel names.

Thanks for the reply and advice. I don't think I performed any typos but to rule it out I'll recheck all my config files at the weekend(don't want to mess up my recording of Masterchef tomorrow night!)

I rechecked my ids in the stations.txt file and they all seem to line up with the channel ids I used when I created them. Looking at the tvlog file, it looks like the data is at least recognized, even if it isn't processed correctly:

Sep 24 15:52:53 (none) Scheduler[163]: Mempool highwater 2116
Sep 24 15:52:53 (none) Scheduler[163]: DataChanged:PROGRAM_GUIDE
Sep 24 15:52:53 (none) Scheduler[163]: Abr-- DataChanged:0x00090009
Sep 24 15:53:25 (none) Scheduler[163]: Mempool highwater 2116
Sep 24 15:53:25 (none) Scheduler[163]: DataChanged:PROGRAM_GUIDE
Sep 24 15:53:25 (none) Scheduler[163]: Abr-- DataChanged:0x00090009

I'm wondering if the problem is with the writeguide program? The version I found was 0.07 and needed a ~/.tivohelper/config.ini file and a maps subdirectory to run. I put just two lines in the config file.
[maps]
schema=map/schema.txt

,and I used the schema.txt that came with the source code.

Do you need any additional config settings or files -- I notice you mentioned about stray spaces after commas buy I don't recall using any commas in any config files anywhere!
