I think it has been said that the altepg will, as closely as possible resemble the current offering from tivo. But without charge.

Yes, but how is the TiVo user to be given access to the AltEPG? By buying a new disk, by using the remote control to change settings in the TiVo, or what?

The intent is for it to be as simple as changing settings on your tivo via the remote.
The alpha testing at the moment is mainly covering access through networked connections because the Dial Up Service is not quite ready yet, although various testing is still ongoing.
Keeping the dream alive.

For my penneth:

Many of us, myself included still have working Tivo's thanks to Dave, and now thanks to him and others kindly working their asses off we are able to continue to use them despite being kicked in the Goolies by Tivo Inc..

I dont personally know Dave but i know that if he charged for the extra time put in on end user help and the EPG we would all owe him a great deal more than he has ever charged, so the comments regarding impartiality and the "group" taking control of the new epg - and away from him, seem rather insulting and in poor taste.

AND what would group control be like? - maybe it could be a coalition !!!! shall we have a referendum on it ???
