I don't know if it's still working now with the news that networked Tivos have now terminated, but just for info my last few calls to 08450885336 were averaging about 15p each on a BT unlimited weekend plan.

Yes that is interesting. My supposition had been that the unit itself set the time for the next call at approx 24 hours later. From what ByTheCringe reports that appears to be incorrect.

ISTR that 24 hours is for a unit with an account in good standing but if the TiVo doesn't have an account it phones less frequently. Presumably this was intended to reduce the cost to TiVo of the freephone calls when people didn't have a sub.

Yep, it'll just call once a week to set the clock.

I should be on the AltEPG by then anyway. The bastards have stopped me seeing the "data to 13 July" that I had accumulated, so at the moment my TiVo is a nice-looking doorstop!

My TiVoweb still let me check the ToDo list (which was nice - had a bit of a panic that it would have been wiped before I could at least cut and paste it to keep). [Edit: this was because tivoweb only does a particular check when tivoweb starts up, and it was still running from the previous reboot].

Spitfire has very helpfully posted the fixsub script on another thread. A search will find it. It resets your tivo's status, then you reboot and you're back up and running able to get to the ToDo list, and set up new recordings. [edit: and use TivowebPlus]. Of course, the next call will kill it again, but that's a week away.

As I have said before I'd urge people to wait as longer if possible before switching over to join the Alpha testing phase of AltEPG. Looks like it'll be next weekend's task for me.

Unfortunately, for dialup users, we don't have the luxury of waiting. The accounts have been closed, instead of just closing down the 0207 number, so there is no function left, and sooner rather than later, we have to go to the AltEPG service, even though we are painfully aware that it is still in Alpha testing.

^ Yes as healeydave said, that was always the risk of trying to sneak around the 0808 disconnection.

Paradoxically if you hadn't dialled in to TiVo using one of the non-0808 numbers then your TiVo would still be fully functional (albeit with a dwindling supply of guide data). :(

But as the last day on which the 0808 number allowed Tivos to connect to it was 12th June those Tivos that stopped connecting to Tivo when the 0808 number closed also ran out of EPG data for all BBC, ITV, C4 and Five channels this morning. The only difference is that they will still have another week or so's data left that can be viewed and used to record on some of the other satellite channels (for those using their Tivo with Sky Digital).

Having seen my 5 Lifetime Status machine turned in to a Status 8 closed account by yesterday's network call through my Cachecard I now feel much more inclined to take the same course of action as rwtomkins and file a court claim against Tivo UK under the Small Claims process.

If you want to continue using the remaining original Tivo guide data for the next few days before switching to AltEPG, then I think the following steps will get you back in business:

1. Register your TiVo with AltEPG (http://www.altepg.com/)
2. Change your dialPrefix to one of the AltEPG numbers (ie 0845 0800300 or 01274 DECOMISSIONED - see viewtopic.php?f=16&t=709 for full details)
3. Make a test call
4. Disconnect the phone line

This should set your status to "4. Internal Testing" and you should find that you have access to your existing guide data. It will run out pretty soon of course.

Thanks millsb, that's done the trick. Now I can relax for the next fortnight. :)

This should set your status to "4. Internal Testing" and you should find that you have access to your existing guide data. It will run out pretty soon of course.

For a networked Tivo the additional steps required are to run nic_config_tivo from telnet to change your Tivo's connection method from network to dialup and save that changed setting and then reboot the Tivo with the reboot command at the Telnet prompt before carrying out Steps 1 to 4. This will then allow you to still use the Tivo EPG until it runs out and also access your Tivo with Tivoweb via your network connection without it managing to call in to Tivo via the network connection and go back to 8:Closed account status as a result of doing so. By contrast running spitfires' script hack to change account status from 8 (Closed) back to 5 (Lifetime) worked in terms of making the Tivo able to access the EPG and record again but unfortunately blocked access to the Tivo by Tivoweb in the case of my Tivo and many others as Tivoweb 1.9.4 will not allow access to a Tivo that has had its account status artificially modified to Lifetime by a hack of the type that Spitfires provided. This problem did not apparently apply to TivoWebPlus users.

By contrast Tivoweb 1.9.4 treats Status 4: Tivo Internal Test as being a legitimate account status created by the normal dialin procedures to what appear to it to be a regular Tivo server so it is happy with it and continues to allow access to Tivoweb 1.9.4

Of course all of this will probably be academic after this coming weekend when most of us will be forced to switch over to the AltEPG by the loss of EPG data for BBC, ITV and Five channels even though there will be EPG data on C4 channels for another week and for some of the non terrestrial satellite channels until about two weeks on from this Thursday (i.e until July 14th).

I feel it's only fair to point out I did not write this script - it came from the dealdatabase forum.

Yes, that would be fair wouldn't it. It's also fair to point out how easy it is to change a "5" to a "4" in the script, too.
