Errors of this kind are usually memory related. It's the Scheduler process which is dying; this is the bit of code which takes the SPs/WLs and compares them to the guide data. So the problem will be in one of those areas. As everyone isn't seeing this, it may be that there are some dodgy SPs or malformed Wishlists? Given what you've recently done, those automaticaly created Wishlists would be the first place I'd look. Have you got one creating 000s of recordings by mistake?

There doesn't appear to be lots of recordings being scheduled, but I'm wondering if something about those wishlists comprised of programme titles, or just the large number of them, is blowing up whatever search algorithm they used.

In my own "phrase" wishlists I'd always used double-quote ["] characters (set via the remote pause button), but the autogenerated ones don't do that.

I'll clear them out this evening, and see what happens.

I bit the bullet and dug out a std dial-up TiVo and followed the instructions which seemed to go well until I got to the dial in stage, first attempt was last night at about midnight, report came back 'phone is busy' which is not to be unexpected, I gave up about 1am resumed this morning at about 8.30am and now it is 2.22pm and I have not progressed any further, had a couple of 'unable to connect' but in the main it's been 'phone is busy' could there be something wrong with this TiVo or is it a case of perseverance? What has been the experience of other people out there, what is the successful connection rate is any one actually keeping a log of how many machines are actually connecting and how often??

Unfortunately the test servers on the existing listed numbers all seem to have completely given up the ghost for the time being.

A new and more professional dial up solution, probably with a single number but several modems in play, is going to be introduced next week, presumably just in time for June 1st.

I did clear out the program listings data and the season passes (all done by the same option in the menus), reloaded the EPG and then - sometime later - my season passes, and everything seems stable overnight.

Did the first of ours on Saturday, everything seems AOK! Although we'd forgotten to turn off "auto record suggestions" and so it went a bit mad in the night and recorded a load of stuff! :-)

The other one has a lot of stuff on it. Is anyone trying this without doing the "clear everything" first, and is it working OK? i.e. is it worth a punt?

I have set up a number of Tivos for myself and friends. After the first one I decided against the delete everything option. As previously discussed, the Season Passes will not be preserved. You may wish to try converting them to Wishlists as detailed elsewhere on this forum. Personally, I just printed out a list of them and reinstated those in the current list after the update. Obviously, many will not be available but I can simply add them again when they re-appear in the schedule. I am happy to say that all the original programmes have been preserved :D Very well done to all those concerned with this project.

All this sounds very encouraging. So is it now time for a non-geek just to change the dial-up number on an un-modified S1 or will it also need a replacement HD with a new image to work with the alternate EPG? Off-line response to gard at btinternet.com, perhaps, if more appropriate. Many thanks.

I have now updated six Tivos which were originally modded with the excellent 'Hooch' disk upgrade programme. I have tried using the new image and this also works. I would recommend using the original setup as you will not need to remove the disc. If you are using dialup, it can all be done with the Tivo remote. Before starting, I would suggest that you try one last Test call (to the Tivo service) to ensure that your modem is fully operational. Once you start the guided setup, your Tivo will be locked into it until it is completed. During the setup, the Tivo will need to make two calls. Be sure to double check the Dial Prefix when you have entered it! I understand that the AltEPG service is currently operating over a single modem so be prepared for many retries before your calls get answered. If your call fails (message: 'phone is busy') then you can simply retry by pressing the 'select'button again. The first time I did this it was necessary to retry the calls 20-30 times over a period of two days before completing the guided setup. Obviously, there is no need to contantly monitor the Tivo, just retry if a call fails. It is well worth the effort, once again, many thanks to all those who have worked to make this possible.

Is the modem operational now? when I tried, unsuccessfully over two days last week I was told that the modem had bust and they were working on replacing it with a better modem with more ports to handle more incoming calls.

The modem is working fine, but is only one phone line, a multi line solution will be available soon, the number will be put on here when we know it.

One modem and lots of people doesnt work very well :(

Hopefully it wont be long now, but it is defintely not bust. It is just in use most of the time.

Is there a way of actually checking that my TiVo is getting through to the modem other than monitoring the call? it is constantly coming up as "Failed. Phone Busy" but is it?? could it be my modem in the TiVo reporting back that this is the case when it is something else that is the problem, I've not seen any other reports coming back from people saying that they had issues getting through or am I just being impatient :(

If you have network access look in tclient.log - that will show whether the modem has initialized and attempted a call
