Have you checked that the psu fan blades are not obstructed ?

It could be the hard drive bearings. How old is the drive? The original Maxtor in my TiVo was prone to squeak occasionally, but that was soon replaced by a bigger driver anyway.

All is good here. the Harddrive makes click, click sound as it reads the sectors on the harddive.
thankyou for your suggestion.

There are only two moving parts in the TiVo, the fan and the hard drive platters. If the noise is coming from one of those it would tend to die away slowly rather than abruptly when the mains supply is removed. If the noise stops very quickly (eg less than 1 second) after the mains supply is removed then it is more likely to be an electrical source and the PSU is by far the most likely - but that has been changed.

The hard drive bearings and the head stepper motor are totally independent. It is quite possible to have screaming bearings in a drive which appears to be functioning fine.
