Easiest install ever

I've just started using my Series 1 TiVo again after it was in a cupboard for a while, and I'm really impressed with how easy it was to burn the AltEPG ISO image onto CD and install it onto my TiVo hard drive. Apart from the usual faffing around with removing the hard drive and putting it into a PC chassis to update it, it was really quick and painless.

Also, the auto configuration of the network card is a huge step forward, as this used to be a real limitation - having to take the hard drive out to run nic_config_tivo to change the network settings.

TiVo #1 is currently organising its first download of AltEPG guide data.

I have another 3 or 4 TiVos lying around the house, so looking forward to getting them all up and running again. Then I would be able to help with any testing that's needed on guide data or TiVoWeb modules etc.

Congratulations to everyone involved and thanks for saving our S1 TiVos from extinction!

If they're networked, don't forget to configure them with different MAC addresses after installing the image. The defaulty install will give them the same fixed address.

Yes, the AltEPG ISO is a significant improvement on the old standard image with its auto configuration of the Network card.

The ability to change any settings you like now through the TiVo's User Interface without having to go anywhere near a terminal session is also awesome!

For those that got operational on AltEPG early on may not even be aware of the advancements in the ISO, we even provide a simple form to create the configuration string for the user, see here:

Credit to millsb for his excellent work on this, its fantastic!
