Season Pass (but only specific series)

I don't know if this is possible, but I thought I'd ask :)

I'd like to set up a Season Pass for "Family Guy" which BBC3 are showing (pretty much all the time as far as I can tell). However over the last few years I have already managed to see the first eight series. So what I would like to do is to only record series 9 or later. Is there a way to do this?

The best way to do it is with an autorecording keyword wishlist for "FAMILY GUY" S09E*, if you need later series as well add another in the same vein, S10E* etc.

Thanks :).

I've just tried that via TiVoWeb. Search for Keyword "FAMILY GUY" S09E*, but I get
Code: Select all
Error, unrecognised search format.: "FAMILY GUY" S09E*
I think it's the quotation marks it doesn't like. But if I search for keywords FAMILY GUY S09E* then I get no matches.

Ah, my mistake I think, S9 rather than S09 sorry.

No, sorry, that doesn't seem to work either, I've tried a few TiVoWeb search experiments

Code: Select all
Search by:        Search for            Results
TITLE             FAMILY GUY            FAMILY GUY (a link to episodes)
KEYWORD           FAMILY GUY            No Results
TITLE KEYWORD     FAMILY GUY            List of episodes as below

Episode                      Num       Orig.Air Date Channel    Date     Time  Mins
Family Guy
Hell Comes to Quahog        500003                  BBC3 Fri   4th May  23:15
 Saving Private Brian        500004                  BBC3 Fri   4th May  23:35
Road to the North Pole      900007                  BBC3 Sat   5th May  00:00
 Brothers and Sisters        900015                  BBC3 Sat   5th May  00:40
 Foreign Affairs             900017                  BBC3 Sat   5th May  01:05
 Stewie Loves Lois           500001                  BBC3 Sat   5th May  01:25

The episodes I'd want to record are those with a Num starting 9000?? which will be season 9. A description for one of these includes (s9e?)

Code: Select all
(s9e7) Brian and Stewie travel to the North Pole to teach Father Christmas a lesson after being snubbed by a mall-based Santa. However, on finding him incapacitated, the pair decide to step into his sleigh and deliver the gifts in his place - but their efforts fall desperately short of the mark.

But I can't get a search to pick up this information, either by Title, Title Keyword or Keyword.

Hmm. Odd, because this is a FAQ and this method has been our stand-in instead of having OADs in the guide data for the last year. More people would have said something if it didn't work - it does work, I assure you :)

TiVoweb may/may not have issues with quotes in a search term or wishlist. So let's forget TiVoweb for now. Just try this in the real TiVo UI:

Create a Keyword Wishlist, for "FAMILY GUY" S9E* .
Press PAUSE on the remote to get the quote characters, and press SLOW to get the *. (Save time by pressing the 9 on the remote - no need to scroll around the board to get to the numbers the slow way!)

Then choose "View upcoming episodes". When I do this, I get the 3 matches in season 9 showing tomorrow morning:

Code: Select all
Road to the North Pole   s09e07       BBC3   Sat    5th May 00:00
Brothers and Sisters   s09e15       BBC3   Sat    5th May 00:40
Foreign Affairs   s09e17       BBC3   Sat    5th May 01:05

For these it's probably better to create the Wishlist initially in the TiVo UI. Then it will work as normal. I always put quotes around groups of words eg "FAMILY GUY", otherwise anything with those individual words that's in Season 9 of something will get picked up, and it can be hard to work out what caused the match :)

Well I'm baffled :? (and not for the first time :D). Using the TiVo GUI (not TiVoWeb) I set up a Keyword Wishlist for "FAMILY GUY" S9* (using PAUSE for " and SLOW for *) and then went to "View Upcoming Episodes" and nothing :(. If I remove the S9* then it finds all the Family Guy episodes, but with the S9* nothing. I am on FreeSat but I don't know if that makes any difference.

I notice in a previous post you listed upcomming episodes and there was lower case s in the episode column, but your searching with upper case S - could that be the problem ?

It works for me.

All the matching episodes are on the same day on the same channel. Do these episodes appear when you did the search for "FAMILY GUY" without the S9* bit?

I get the same results as Carl now (no upcoming episodes) but I presume that's because all the series 9 episodes have now been shown and there are no more upcoming at the moment (at least on my tivo). Presumably whether you see them or not depends on whether your Tivo has run its garbage collection process to remove old showings from mfs.

So unless Carl tried creating his wishlist via the onscreen interface before 1am-ish this morning, when the last showing of a series 9 episode finished, I think that's the reason he's not seeing any upcoming episodes.

Not in this case. The Wishlist search isn't case sensitive, and/because the GUI only lets you enter capitals :)

I think the gui only displays future showings anyway, and that particular screen filters duplicates too.

Indeed.

Exactly when you did it is key. Those episodes were in the very early hours of Saturday morning. To get the list of 3 upcoming episodes, you had to do it before midnight on Friday night.

Easy to test the wishlist though - there is a mixture of season 3, 4, 5, and 8 episodes being shown across BBC3 and FX. Change the wishlist to S4* and then S5* and see if the list of upcoming matches changes.

eg. There are two S4 episodes on BBC3 tonnight, and two S5 episodes on BBC3 tomorrow.
So if the S4* WL matches as expected and then changing it to S5* also matches as expected, you can change it to S9* and be (reasonably!) confident that it's a working WL.

I created the GUI Wishlist (Keyword "FAMILY GUY" S9*) at about 18:30 on Saturday 5 May so that probably esplains why I got no listings. I've just created a Keyword "FAMILY GUY" S5* and that correctly picked up Series 5 programmes. So I've added in a "FAMILY GUY" S9* and I'll leave that to simmer on the back burner, hoping that Series 9 gets repeated soon. Thanks for all the help :)
