I'm not sure that my confidence in the seller's legal title would allow me to bid, but presumably many others are likely to appear over time.
Are they of any use outside Virgin's system? Does the separate box handle security/decryption? If so, what is the input format to the TiVo box?

They are not linked in any way whatsoever. The listing says that it is a non-PVR set-top box. It does not have any kind of input to the Virgin TiVo.
