FYI - promising STB

Just received a Tvonics MDR-252 STB of which there seems to be plenty on Fleabay at reasonable prices.

Positive points:-

Very small - only 200 x 90 x 30 mm

Although the included wall wart is rated at 5.1v it seems to run quite happily off 5v (>1A) so should have no problem running off the Tivo PSU.

The 'Auto Standby' feature can be disabled.

It comes back in the 'on' state after a power cut although it does default to channel 1 (not a big problem).

So, just need to collect the IR codes and I should be in business :-) Gonna be much easier to integrate internally then the Sony.

Damn, damn, damn!!

Just had a bash at capturing the remote codes and it looks like its got some unusual IR setup as the box won't respond to the captured codes. Tried the 'Determine Frequency of Remote' option in irSliceCreator without any response. I did note that the remote is a URC-60500R01 but couldn't find any info about it. I have noticed that there are some Tvonics people on the Digital Spy forums so I'll have a go at getting some info from them.

The quest continues :-)

I don't wish to rain on your parade but Tvonics recently went into administration. So there maybe no future support. I was looking at one of their HD PVR's but decided against it just in case.

Yeh, I was aware but it doesn't really matter for my/our purposes. Especially when you consider the No. 1 recommended STB for use with our Tivo's is the Sony :-)

Mainly I'm after something as good as the Sony but is smaller and can be powered off 5v or 12v.

The quest continues!

You may already be aware of it but ISTR that the tvonics developers were ex Sony and had previously developed the DTX800U.
