Now Showing Menu Functions

I've probably been asleep but I've noticed some handy functions appearing at the top of the Now Showing list to sort the listing, add folders and so on. Wondering where they came from.

If it's possible to add extra functions, I would like to see a function to delete all the TiVo suggested recordings. With large hard drives, you can end up with many programs which, as the box slows down, take forever to delete one by one. It would be handy to have this bulk delete function so that you can have a clearout of what you don't want.

It sounds like you've managed to activate mikerr's sortnp which is enabled by default in the AltEPG setup.

If you're using an AltEPG image then it's already enabled, just press the zero key when you're on the "Now Playing" screen to activate

Guess I don't have an AltEpg image, just use AltEpg - if that makes sense

AltEpg image needs some work I assume. Will go looking for that too- please feel free to point me at it !

You can download the image from here

http://www.altepg.com/altepgiso/index.php

In summary you download the image and burn it onto a CD. You then dismantle your TiVo and transfer its disk drive to a suitable PC where you boot the CD and use it to reimage the drive. Put the drive back in the TiVo and you are done.

You will lose all recordings and season passes doing this.

The biggest hurdle is usually finding a suitable PC. The CD is very fussy and you will need an old PC with only IDE connectors. If the PC has SATA connectors (i.e. most PC's under 10 years old) it isn't likely to work.

You do need to be fairly techie so you might want to consider either buying a new TiVoland drive http://www.tivoland.com/accessories/index.html or using the TiVoland AltEPG installation service to reimage your drive for you http://www.tivoland.com/spares/index.html

Thanks

The Tivo is crammed with programmes and loads of Seasons Passes that took an age to get in so I'd better skip for now.
I do have a spare Tivo though so could look at that for it.....

Bear in mind that sortnp is a hack like most others that can be easily added to a normal image TiVo, as long as you can install stuff via telnet and ftp as in the past. If you've installed TiVoweb for example or other hacks it's like that. See: http://tinyurl.com/mlvseyl

It's just that the AltEPG image has a very nice set of them already installed.

Also it's worth reminding that our uk TiVo core software is fixed and can't be changed. It always displays the Now Showing list in descending date order, and nothing can ever change this!
The sortnp hack achieves the effect of a sort by trashing the recording dates and re-writing new ones, still visible down the right side of the screen, so that the Programme titles in the main column are in the order that you select. There are some videos on youtube, eg this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8DWENdMBs0
