Using TiVo for Freeview only .. no satellite

Postby bandsp » Tue Nov 21, 2017 8:48 pm

After wandering for 18 months or so have just bought a new place and want to put my TiVo back into operation .. Previously I had Sky/Freesat on the scart with a humax freeview box feeding via the antenna connection .. had to teach the TiVo the Humax codes as I recall ..

Now I don't have satellite and want to use the humax box to feed tivo via the scart lead but cant work out how to get it to work ..

Any advice appreciated

Hi,

Set-up with a Humax is all pretty standard.

I am using a Humax HD-FOX T2 as a “set top box” which I use for recording purposes –
my TV has built-in Freeview.

I have the terrestrial TV cable looped through the Humax and then into the back of the TV.

The Humax is then connected to Tivo via scart, and Tivo to TV via scart – I bring it
through “EXT.”

Obviously, the Humax had to first scan for the channels available from my local
transmitter.

Upon setting up Tivo on guided set-up, selection was made on a “Humax” set-top box, and
the code used wss “20073 medium.”

I have a separate HDMI cable from Humax to the TV should I want to view
Humax direct – I bring this through HDMI-1.

Other than that, there was nothing special that I can recall.

I hope this is of assistance to you.

Thanks Mike .. you kickstarted the old grey cells ..

Changing from sky + freeview to just freeview needed a restart and select aerial + cable/terrestrial ..

However I now have another problem .. it does the set-up call but then tells me it has no data for my postcode and to try another nearby postcode .. I tried my previous postcode which used to work for me but now the same reult .. no data .. these postcodes are only 6 character and I have tried with and without the space still with no joy .. I tried my original 7 character code and that again fails ..

just can't see what I am doing wrong ..

when I get the fail message it says press select to retry another code , but this gives a blank screen with no way out .. I have to power off and on to restart it all

Hi,

Since the inauguration of AltEPG, there has been a "universal" postal code to use which is 01000.

Using this should sort out your problem.

Hi again,

It seems strange that you are unable to change channels in conjunction with your Humax.

Without wanting to question on how you have gone through guided set-up, the following is how
I am set up with my Humax. This is presuming you are using an IR Wand(s) and that you have
its jack plug inserted in the socket at the back of Tivo.

Set-Top Box Control.

Source: Set-Top Box. Infared Blaster Humax

Set-Top Box: Humax

Use Two leading Zeros.

No to Front IR Blaster.

IR Code "20073 Medium."

Mike.

Yep .. done all that but it doesn't respond .. I had to to set up the ir codes last time I set everything up ..

If I have to, I'll put up a sky dky dish .. I have a Sky box and a freesat box .. to play with ..

I have been looking at teaching tivo the codes again, and it seems I still have have the file on the tivo so I don't have to go the process of recording them ..

I have been following, as I did in the past,http://www.oztivo.net/twiki/bin/view/IR/IRCapturingCodesWithTivo

However , I when I come to use tivosh to tell it to use the new codes for the Humax I come to a halt ..

tivosh runs under bash, but I can't get bash to see it and run it .. it is on the tivo ..

A few pointers would be a great help, please

It may not be in the 'path'. Try using the full directory path to tivosh.
