This has bugged me for a while, so time to do something about it!

In my Daily Mail, there are various hyperlinks back to my home TiVo. But they use urs local address - so they don’t work when I’m travelling

Where does DailyMail get this address from? I don’t see it in the configuration anywhere

I’d like to change it to my external ip addrsss

The setting is in dailymail.cfg

## (2.1.3) The url of the tivo, required if you have enabled hyperlinks (no forward slash at end
##         required)
set dmailTivoURL "http://www.mytivourl.com"

(and, optionally, 2.1.4 if you want images in your email)

You will need either a fixed IP address or use a DNS translation service (e.g. noip.com). And configure your router to forward these connections to your TiVo.
