Can anyone advice me on a Freeview box that will work with the Tivo
so I can connect the tv ariel into and loop through to the Tivo as the new Altepg image won't accept ariel only and I don't want to use my dvd recorders freeview feature as it consumes to much power.
ideally a small box with low power so its on 24/7 as with Tivo and no problems with changing to the channel it needs to record from.
Thanks in anticipation

I had the devil of a job finding one that is supported. The list of supported codes includes a lot of old, currently unavailable*, boxes. There is a list on the interweb of supported boxes, but again, it's quite an old list. *There are a number of these boxes on ebay - but they tend to go for stoopid money. In the end I went for a PHILIPS DTR220 DIGITAL TV RECEIVER" from tesco_outlet via ebay which I see are still available at £14.97. It's not the best of pictures - but that might be my set up, the box is discrete and seems to be very reliable using standard IR codes - or at least has been since the end of March.

There are plenty of Sony VTX800U Freeview boxes on eBay.
They work superbly - have just pressed one into action for my third AltEPG development TiVo. From memory remote code 20034 under Sony does the biz (it's the first one listed if the number isn't correct). Set it to use three digits and not press enter during the guided setup and you're away.
Most importantly you can hide them vertically in an overcowded AV setup.
Hope this helps.
Tony.

I can second that suggestion. I got a Sony VTX800U offeBay for my second TiVo and it just works without any fuss.

Can anyone suggest a Tivo-friendly Freeview box that has a good tuner and also has an option to switch the Text (red button stuff) off?

Thanks everyone for your recommendations, in the end I went for the majority vote and got Sony VTX800U of fleabay but the person that I got it off has been a sod with posting it, It said in the ebay bid that it would arrive within 2-3 days that was on Tuesday when I won it and paid for it straight away now I am twiddling my thumbs waiting for Next Tuesday as of bank hols to do anything more I wouldn't care but I paid £8 for the postage I don't think I will leave good feedback with them

I think alarm bells should've been ringing when they wanted £8 postage
(actual cost is £4.41 by Royal Mail). I don't trust anyone who deliberately overcharges postage like that, although fleabay turn a blind eye to it.

My scribbled note says "leading 0, no , no, 20053 medium" (I'm not sure whether the leading zero is actually required or not).

The customer reviews for the STBHDIS2010 are pretty awful. Anyone had success with other Freeview HD boxes?
