Failed call "Phone is Busy"

Since successfully getting AltEPG working on 30 May, I've disconnected the dialup line most of the time to avoid the Ring Back problem. I've had about 3 successful Daily calls since 30 May - last on Fri 10 June, but I usually get "Failed. Phone is busy" and occasionally get "Failed to connect". Can someone clarify the meaning of these?

In particular, does "Failed. Phone is busy" mean TiVo thought *my* phone line was busy (it wasn't) or the AltEPG modem was busy?

Update: Just now - when I tried to add a dozen pauses to the prefix to stop the Ring Back, I got "Failed. Number not answering".
Unmodified dialup TiVo (since 2001). AltEPG working since 30 May 2011.

The new FAQ has answered part of my question, explaining that "Failed. Phone is busy" does indeed mean that the modem at the EPG end is busy.

Can someone explain why I sometimes get "Failed. Couldn't connect", and sometimes "Failed. Phone is busy". What's the difference?
Unmodified dialup TiVo (since 2001). AltEPG working since 30 May 2011.

Hi.
I have got my Tivo working after 4 days of trying.
There are several different things that can go wrong.
I was able to "monitor" my line with a linesman's handset to hear what was going on.

1 Busy tone from far end - that comes up as "phone busy" (as I remember)
2 Couldn't connect- that can happen after number HAS answered but failed subsequently or when no tone was received.
3 Tivo says Done or Successful but data is still being received.
4 " " " " " but isn't and channels revert to default which means a huge download next try if you don't
re-check "channels you receive"

Hope this helps. My last and successful download took 90 minutes and tht's just for the basic free to view on sky channels.

PS At first I read the " " " " " in point 4 as something to do with inserting pauses in the dial prefix :? ...
...Then I realised they were dittos referring point 3 above, but the whitespace had been stripped out :oops: .
