Circumventing 28 day rule for specific episodes

Is there a way to circumvent the 28 day rule for specific episodes?

The reason I ask is that sometimes programes are cut short due to either the children or SWMBO changing channels. In these instances TiVo has recorded the episode and that particular episode is then subject to the 28day rule. So even if another showing is available, it won't be automatically recorded.

I think you can use TiVoWebPlus to remove the RecordingHistory or NoReRecord entry for that Episode (I know you can do them en masse, can't quite remember if you can alter individual entries). Then your tivo will forget that it recorded it, and try and schedule it into ToDo again.

I've looked through the menus to try and figure out how to do this but can't find it.

Could you please give me a pointer?

Now I'm back home and can check :), in TivoWebPlus v2.1.b3, it's "UI", "NoReRecord" from the top menu. You then get a nice page with tickboxes where you can delete individual entries.

Newer ones are at the bottom.

Or in tivo itself. View upcoming episodes, selct the one to record, choose record this episode also.

Indeed. The only downsides to doing it that way is that you have to do the work yourself of finding an alternative showing that doesn't clash, and TiVo won't shuffle showings around and pop them in/out of the ToDo list if you re-order SP prioirities in the SP manager if it's a manual (single tick) entry in ToDo.

Norerecord isn't available as standard in TWP 1.3.1, I'll install 2.1.b3 later this week.......

Cool. Someone on the dealdatabase forum has worked hard and put together all the patches that were strewn through various posts there, and created a new build from the end of June recently (tivowebplus-v2.1.b3-110622.tgz).

Please would you post a patch to the dealdatabase thread? Otherwise it won't be picked up for the next release.

Consider it done MrD ;)

(p.s. Somebody must've woken them up again - it's been pretty much a dead thread for months!)

It's one of the nice features of Media Center that it recognises failed recordings (and failed attempts to schedule a recording because of clash) and just gets on and reschedules another showing on its own, even on another channel. You could probably construct a script to do that for TiVo.

It's a small chink in TiVo's armour. TiVo knows when it's rebooted during a recording, enough to resume recording the rest of it. So it knows you've got two parts of a programme with a bit missing in the middle. It just doesn't take that extra step, to look for another showing. Setting up a wishlist that clashes would do as you describe already - periodically and tirelessly trying in the background to find a showing. For a normal SP, you'd have less luck.

There is a circumstance when I've seen TiVo recognise that it didn't get the whole programme, and it schedules another copy in ToDo. This is without any hacks. I can't remember what the circumstance is though! It's not stopping an in-progress recording as that's a conscious decision.
