Sky with free channels - how to set up?

Hi,

I'm trying to run through guided setup, as I have a Sky box but I don't pay for any channels. Not the same as freesat (so I've discovered) but if I select Sky I get loads of channels which I don't receive.

Can anyone suggest a way of setting this up easily? I've been through the guided setup twice now, and currently it thinks it's freesat (so only the main 5 channels + a few others work, the rest have the wrong numbers).

Guess the only way is to go through and delete all the ones I don't get... but I don't know what they are, so it could take a while.

Thanks for any help.

Steve

Yes, Freesat-from-Sky is the same lineup as Sky. We only have one lineup to cover all variations of Sky subscriptions + expired subscriptions + Freesat-from-Sky in all country variations. Wales channel numbers for C4 are different, for example, and the Ireland Sky EPG has E4/More/etc on different channel numbers. All of them appear together, so take care which versions of channels you select in the Channels I Receive screen.

Your only option which ends up with the correct lineup, is to re-run guided setup and select Sky. The first time through, I would deselect all channels, then select your correct BBC1, and leave it at that. It's too much hassle otherwise. NB there's a TiVo bug which means the selections often don't 'stick' on this screen during Guided Setup - the workaround is to wait until the end of the 4-8 hour indexing period and then reboot.

Next, go here:

and go back into Channels I Receive and add the Free-to-air and Free-to-view channels with the correct channels numbers for where you live. You can sort that wiki page's Channel sections tables by Encryption type to make it easier to find them if you like.
