There is an answer in the
FAQ, however, the likliehood is that you haven't correctly registered your TiVo - those 8s and B's are easy to get mixed up.

Thank you for your advice but my tivo number only has numerics in it with no number 8. Unless of course some of the zeros are O's...? Seems unliklely. Regards

Can you get to a bash prompt? If so you can type "set" and one of the values displayed will be SerialNumber=<your number>. You can then cut and paste it etc and check it's the one that is registered. The sticker on the back may not match, it should but may not.
Also, In your terminal emulator I'd recommend using the Consolas font (which is available as a free download from MS and may be standard in Win7, not sure). This is specially designed to clearly slow the differences between lower case l, number 1, capital I, little o, zero, etc.

I can't remember - and I'm 4 hours away from my TiVo at the moment, but doesn't it show the service number on the info screen also?
@lumpycustard - I know. You've double checked.
Problem is - there are really only 3 reasons that we know of to get the postcode not recognised.
You are still connecting to "old TiVo service" - unlikely.
You have entered a postcode other than 01000 - unlikely
The serial number you have entered does not match the one that the TiVo is using. - Most likely scenario.
As mrT says above, in some circumstances, the serial number may not match the label.

Yes, but if he's in guided setup then he can't get to that (AFAIK)

other things:
* You could be forgetting to enter the configuration code 127 at the correct time in Guided setup (see step 13:
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=480)
* You could be forgetting to press Enter (not Select) on the remote on that screen, after entering 127, before continuing on.

Ah yes, that's certainly going to hold him (or her ) back a little....

Thanks for all your help guys-EUREKA im up and running!!!!!!!!!! All it was ----my service number had a capital D in it which i read as a 0. The writing on the back of the box is so small (and the old peepers are not as good as they used to be) that it was easy to misread. Regards to all
