Evening all,
My mother in law's VCR is on its last legs and I have a spare TiVo in the loft. I thought I'd set it up for her when we were next up at her place. That was a month or so ago. I set up an account here, added my TiVo to it and took the machine and (I thought) all the parts up to her place (several hundred miles away). When I got there and started putting everything together, like a chump I found that I'd forgotten the IR wands, so I stopped getting it set up and left things for when I was up there next (today).
Today I had a few problems.
1. I tried to log on here using my already set up account but could not. I re-did registration and could use the same account name, email and password. I presume that means my account got deleted as I had not posted since I joined. Fair enough. Only minor problem is that my TiVo's number has not been deleted from the db and so I cannot register that TiVo as associated with this account. Curses. I don't know how much of an impact that has on things going forward.
2. My TiVo was bought from TiVoland some 4 or 5 years ago and has a larger drive in, TiVoweb installed and a network card. The MiL does not have an internet connection (or indeed a computer) so I am reverting to dial-up connectivity. I followed the instructions for using a phone number in the 'Installation & Configuration' post titled 'Connecting an Existing TiVo Image to AltEPG (via Dial-UP)'. According to my TiVo it could dial but nothing was answering. I tried both the numbers shown. I dialled the numbers by hand and they were answering all right. Could this be linked to issue (1) mentioned above?
I brought the whole kit and caboodle home and have just downloaded and burnt a copy of altepg-1.0c.iso and shall be having a go with that (possibly not tonight). I hope that this will mean I can perform first update here at home and then take it back to the MiL and install it there. Her first TiVo at 82
Cheers
M
