Setting up a TP-Link remote connection to my TiVo

Postby bandsp » Fri Mar 22, 2013 5:02 pm

Looking for a short cut ..

Just changed my IP and, unfortunately, the old one wants the router back .. It works perfectly with no fiddling on the new IP ..

So, I have installed the new router, which is fine, but I can't get the tiVo/TP-link connection to work . the browser says 'Not available ' when I try to access the address (192.168.1.64)

It took me days to figure out what to do when I had it, but I can't remember just what I did ..

I have the installation guide, but although I understand every word (well, almost), when they are strung together into sentences they may as well be Chinese.

I can find no evidence on the PC of it being aware of the TP-link ..

Do I have to connect it by cable to the PC to change passwords or something?
Still learning ..

Mainly because I tend to forget what I have already learned .. I think

Hi Bandsp,

The TP-Link does request a password but you can access the setup page by connecting it with an Ethernet cable. I have posted details here-

Good luck,

Thanks TeePee ..

that's the second time you have got me out of trouble doing it ..

I had searched on TP-Link and got no result .. so I thought I had had the info earlier from somewhere else .. If I had searched my own postings, I would have found it

Anyway, followed the words and music, and now all is OK again ..

I had hoped not to need to physically connect it, (A lot of dismantling of the 'media centre' to get at it), but its all working now ..

Thanks

WRONG ..

Having a lot of trouble doing the daily call .. (and test calls)

I can ping, telnet and Tivoweb to the tivo, no trouble ..

The call goes to 'Connecting' (sometimes showing Network 'not in use', sometimes 'in use'

eventually stops .. 'Number unavailable'

.....

Using Windows 7 on a laptop to monitor ..

Go to Network & sharing centre and click 'See full map' .. sometimes says ....

network map talktalk 1.jpg
network map talktalk 1.jpg (15.6 KiB) Viewed 3989 times

but usually ..

network map talktalk 2.JPG
network map talktalk 2.JPG (26.91 KiB) Viewed 3989 times

when was with BT I got ...

network map BT.jpg
network map BT.jpg (31.95 KiB) Viewed 3989 times

Which I have never seen with Talktalk ..

have I missed something in the TP-Link set up? or is there something I can check / set in TiVo which sets the internet address the daily / test call addresses?

Baffled ..

edit ..

Now reconnected via BT router .. and factory reset the TP-Link before setting it to talk to the BT router ..

No change in symptoms .. Can't get the previous network map (as above)

It has worked with the BT box .. I had not got the TT kit at the time of switch over, and everything continued fine with the BT kit .. it's only since I first used the TT router that I have had the trouble..

No problems anywhere else ..

As a last resort I have just done a 'Network Config' on the TiVo .. setting the NIC to Cachecard ..

Two successful test calls and a daily call later all seems fine ..

Now, I had not, to my knowledge, changed anything to cause it to stop working, and if the Network config was wrong, how was it working sometimes (rarely).

I have recall of something, from when I first set up the cachecard, that there was some other setting, but I don't recall, and can't find, what it was about.

Anyway, for the moment .. everything crossed.
