One thing to consider is that BT certainly (and maybe others) exclude calls to known ISP access numbers from their bundle packages. It would perhaps be wise to lock down access via the dialup so as to be able to argue against their exclusion.

If you forced a dial at a convenient time for your (e.g in the evening), you should be ok to let it carry on by default after that.

Although my Tivo calls home approximately every 24 hours it seems to be always significantly more than exactly 24 hours. For example the last attempt was 9 May at 0939 and the next scheduled is 10 May at 0949. The timing will also be delayed if the home phone line is in use or the AltEPG modem line(s) is busy. So forcing a daily call during one's non-chargeable period would not be a 'do once and forget about it' operation.

There is a script here that restricts the day of week that the TiVo is allowed to call out. I haven't even looked at it, but it might be possible to modify that for more specific control..
