Code: Select all

Hi,

Thank you for registering with AltEPG.

When we started the Alpha testing phase, we had not quite finished the database system.
The choice was to hold off testing until the database part was complete or implement a temporary solution.

We chose the latter to allow already keen users to get a chance to test earlier rather than later.

As a consequence, you may need to re-register at AltEPG.com which creates your account on the new database and then you are able to add TiVo(s) to that account.

If any of you have registered an additonal TiVo in the last week, using the new form (which allows you to give a description of the TiVo), that account will be valid and you only need to add the original TiVo back in.

Basically, you can try adding your original TiVo using the "Add a TiVo" form first:

http://www.altepg.com/addativo/index.php

If this form works, your good to go. If it tells you your TiVo already exists in the system, your also good to go. If it tells you your email & password combination does not exist in the database and assuming you didn't make a typo or forgot your password, thats a good indication that you just need to re-create an account first, using the "Register an Account" button.

The temporary solution will be removed on Wednesday 25th May.

Its no big deal if you have not re-registered your TiVo(s) by Wednesday, they will just go to "Account Closed" until they are entered back into the system.

We do apologise for this slight inconvenience.

Kind Regards

The AltEPG Team.

I myself did not get that email but I also did not have that problem...

No, it only went out to those with Tivo's that were in the temporary config file.
Probably about the first 90 alpha testers.

So, those of us with "8: closed" - should we just retry the daily call?
I've tried registering and it failed.

Which failed the call or registering?

Either way, bot are operational to my knowledge.

If you've added your tivo back into the database, you should just be able to call back in and it will return to "Tivo Internal Testing".
If the call is failing, it may just be busy, occasionally, you get a failed message instead of busy if the modem doesn't get through but it fails to detect the busy tone.

On registering, I am told my username and password is not recognised.
I'm doing something wrong somewhere.
One last daily call try and then I'll leave it until tomorrow.

registering - I think it's because I'm using my phone. It capitalises the first character of some fields.

dialing it - I think the lines are busy.

I have reregistered and will attempt one last dial in before bed.

Thanks

Made my daily call this morning and after several attempt to connect it changed to "4: internal testing".

My EPG is back and season passes are all there. My upcoming recording are fine (TiVo+2).

The call failed after about 20 minutes, but the data is there for the upcoming week and my status has change from "8: you're dead in the water".

I'll have to get my terbonet card installed.

Just for the record I didn't receive that email, am no longer a 'TiT and am an Account Closed.

So was obviously in the first 90 or so (only just noticed this as have been working away from home this week)

Off to re-register.........

UPDATE

Yep that did the trick!

Excuse me being a bit thick (due to my tech non-ability), but does my Tivo know what number to call to get the EPG? Do I need to change anything to get it to call a new number?

As another user, I forced an EPG update today, and it seemed to be loads faster than usual so perhaps I am already good to go. I re-registered the actual box on altepg.com as requested by Dave's email.

Thank you my fellow Tivo-devotees and clever boffin-types :P

If you used the altepg iso, it knows where to go if you have a network connection, if you are on dialup you need to change your dial prefix to 01274 DECOMISSIONED

A number of my main stream channels (ITV1, C4, C5, etc) don't have any listings data before Friday 3rd June. I don't know if this is connected (I just did a complete EPG clear out and re-download yesterday, trying to track down the cause of tivo rebooting lots.)

I found this site today (28th), thanks to those who have taken the time and effort to get this free epg up and running!!! registered and using my dial up unmoded tivo, redid setup and after a few attempts got a call through and all seemed fine. Until I also got the account closed issue. Tried re-registering and now struggling with getting a call through.

Assuming the re register has sorted the account closed issue, I understand the restriction/call busy issue is due to the lack of equipment of the kind chap 'hosting' the number, how much would it take in an individual donation to improve the call busy issue?
What I'm thinking is, if its just a case of £30 for extra modems then its affectively like buying another lifetime subscription but if its a case of thousands for a line upgrade or similar then that's different entirely! Considering 380 registered as interested in the Virgin 'special' deal I wonder how many of us 1 series owners are still out there?

The beauty of the tivo was the stand alone, leave alone auto update etc, if its going to need an hour of manual redialing then thats going to make it scrap for me sadly. I don't wish to sound ungrateful for the work thats going on in the background because I love the tivo and think you guys are fantastic for taking the time and effort to save it!
