TiVo Messages

Is it possible (either currently or in the foreseeable future) to send system messages to our TiVos using the AltEPG backend server, along the lines of the custom messages Virgin used to pimp their new box to us?

Just wondering if in the future we might be able to look forward to regular communications from the AltEPG team? New EPG features, dialup numbers, tips, hacks etc... Basically the sort of thing TiVo should have been doing years ago to engage with their users!

Should be possible as far as I know. I vote for a "Merry Christmas" message :D

The channel add/move/delete messages are generated by the software though, so they will still say "thankyou for using the TiVo service!" which will seem a bit weird.

The server code handles it fine. We've used that here in Oz quite a bit. Although usually only for important things. We let the devices do their own things with channel/lineup changes. There's a hack on the TiVo's themselves that posts a message containing IP address which is very helpful for people who use DHCP at home and need to find the IP address of their TiVo. And we occasionally send messages ourselves.

I see a TiVo message has been sent out regarding the closure of the old 01274 dialup number!

Great that TiVo messages are finally being used to their full potential in keeping users informed... :)
