TiVo Suggestions

Hi Chaps

About to resurrect my tivo (a generously donated one after mine died), and wanted to know if the suggestions work with ALTepg?

Thanks

Yes.

Maybe Rachel might want to add something to the FAQ http://www.tivoland.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=670 briefly listing what services a Tivo running AltEpg offers.

Hmm well it's not really Frequently Asked, though - once in over 6 months?

Technically, the Suggestions feature relies on genres being (a) correct, and (b) actually filled. The data we have isn't good at filling genres, and also our system is currently limited to a maximum of two top-level and two sub-genres, where sometimes Tribune would tend to set 3 or 4. So you should get some Suggestions, but perhaps not as many matches or as accurate as you would have had with the full (expensive) Tribune data.

I get a lot of suggestions from programs that have thumbs up, but fewer "dervied" suggestions - thanks for the info, this seems to explain it.

Thanks for the info....

Is this hack compatible and would it be worth adding?

Yeah it's all the data I'm afraid. But anyone who recorded a Christmas themed movie last month, particularly if they have Movies24 in their lineup, should have had some other matches of Xmas movies as I went on a crusade to set the sub-genre "Christmas" on every single Xmas movie that I could possibly find

That hack - I'm not sure if it looks at the same genres that are missing or not! No harm in trying it though.
