Anyone tried Nero Liquid TV - "TiVo on a PC?"

Postby baggsey » Thu Jan 12, 2012 3:34 pm

Has anyone experimented with using the "TiVo on a PC" software Nero Liquid TV, directing it to access the ALTEPG schedules, and using a UK tuner card or USB stick? I'm idly considering picking up a version of it to play around with. Nero have ceased support for it, but its still possible to buy a copy.

I've seen it demoed, but it was very difficult to even get the demo working! Nero had a whole load of steps in place to stop it working outside the US. As far as I recall my mate had to spoof his browser location just to get to the page on Nero's site to download the demo. It kept redirecting to a "sorry, not available in your country" page every chance it got. After that, jump through a load of hoops after it was installed - it kept checking it was in the US all the time.

It's a really interesting idea, but I can't see how it would be possible to redirect it to access the AltEPG server, and even if you could it would probably get really upset that it wasn't a later-version TiVo server it was talking to.

Well, as I live in the US (but my UK TiVo is running at the in-laws in Harlow) I've gambled $39 for the Nero Liquid TV software from amazon to play around with and see if there is a way to intercept the IP address request for programme listing information. If it is possible to pickup ALTEPG data, and also integrate the PCTV nanoStick USB DVB-T2 (Freeview HD) from Maplins, it might be feasible to have a laptop in the UK with a TiVo interface capable of recording HD content to the hard-drive.

Something I'd also be very interested in. When I've got time I'm going to get a friend in the US to purchase a copy off fleabay and forward it on to me.

If it could be fooled into using Altepg and tuners of our choice it would solve so many limitations of the current Series 1. At $40 bucks its worth a punt. :-)
