Can you post exactly what messages you get when you try the commands telnet 192.168.1.200 and ping 192.168.1.200 Also try ping 192.168.1.254 just to make sure your PC can see the router.

Ebayer has just responded with this message:
I can't remember if i changed the defaults though. See if it works. If i did change it i probably changed it to 192.168.0.8. FYI the TiVo's MAC address is 00:0B:AD:47:39:01. I don't think TiVo's support DHCP so your router won't be able to automatically assign it an IP address. So whatever the IP address of the TiVo turns out to be, it will be advisable to configure your router so that it doesn't try to assign that address to anything else.

I then pinged:
C:\Users\AdamTony>ping 192.168.0.8

Pinging 192.168.0.8 with 32 bytes of data:

Any good?

If your ebayer is right then this will explain the behaviour you're seeing. 192.168.0.8 is on a different subnet to 192.168.1.254 and 192.168.1.77 so they will not be able co communicate.

So you really need to change your router's IP address to something like 192.168.0.254. If you can't do this or it still doesn't work then as you seem to have a working dialup connection we could run some diagnostics from the altepg server to figure out how your tivo is actually configured. Let me know if you want to do that.

The way I've solved this in the past is to temporarily change the PC settings so that it has an IP address within the same subnet. Usually the network settings are 'automatic' (which is non-tech speak for DHCP). You need to change them to 'manually assigned' then put an IP address of, say, 192.168.0.101 subnet 255.255.255.0. Leave the gateway and DNS blank (they won't work anyway because the router will be on a different subnet).

This will allow you to telnet the TiVo, run /sbin/nic_config_tivo (which is the utility that Silicon Dust supplied with all the Turbnet cards they sold) and change the IP address back to 192.168.1.200, gateway to 192.168.1.254 and reboot. The TIVO should now be able to make a daily call. To restore internet access to the PC just change the PC network settings back to automatic.

Can you elaborate a little on "telnet will not allow me to use this" - exactly what is displayed?

Hey
Millsb helped me to sort the network nconnection. A massive thank you to him!!
Just one other little problem now is that I have done the daily call today and my status is code 8 Account closed.
Will this rectify itself? Before I had Tivo Testing.
Many thanks,
Ad

Ah! there's always one more thing. You need to reconfigure TiVo so that it talks to the AltEPG server instead of the old TiVo service.

How to do that is described in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=480

Use 'telnet 192.168.1.200' as before, and then the 3 commands listed under step 3. Be careful to type them in exactly as given.
You also need to do steps 4-9 to change TiVo's dial config. Make sure it says "127" on the screen once you've done it.
Once you've done the test call your service state should be 3.

Hey
I am at the "set up call" stage now. All previous steps have been complete as directed.
It says downloading will take one minute. I have been here about 30 mins now. I have a black bar saying "<< IP address: <<" is that normal? :( It seems to be stuck!
I am getting frustrated now. I hope it is all worth it!
Thank you to everyone who has been patient and helped me out.

Perfect !
Thanks again, I think I am almost there!
One last question... I am moving over to BT internet in a few weeks. Will the new router allow the tivo to just work or will I need to add new settings?
All the best,
Adam.

Your existing router's (local) IP address is 192.168.1.254. If your BT router has the same address then no problem. If it has a different IP address then you will need to reconfigure TiVo - or reconfigure the router, whichever's easier :) However 192.168.1.254 is I think what BT usually uses.
