no audio

Postby robertthirkell » Sat May 05, 2012 10:49 pm

I have no audio.

I put in your phone number/postcode and my Tivo has happily downloaded your epg, all working beautifully except no audio either on live TV or recordings. I have switched off and rebooted, the opening music plays loud and clear but still no audio on Live TV, I have also restarted from the menu. ANY IDEAS?

My Thomson Tivo is the very earliest from before they went on sale, as I was a BBC tester. I have done NOTHING but put the new phone number into phone prefix and changed the postcode

Thanks for any help

Hi Robert,

I get this problem on a frequent basis.

Usually, I have turn off my Sky Amstrad Digi-Box for an hour or so - there is obviously an overheat
situation as regards to a capacitor on its PSU which effects audio output. The other cause is sometimes where the scart lead plug(s) from the Digi-Box into the Tivo is not quite seating/pushed in far enough.

Mike.

There is also a known problem with our TiVos where the audio chip doesn't initialise properly during boot. There is a hack called nosound.tcl that checks the logs and automatically reboots the TiVo if this happens, and there is also a hardware tweak to the power supply which can help. I found out about it from these forums, so try searching here for nosound or similar.

I find my daughters TiVo usually boots fine if I unplug the power cable for a few minutes, but takes several attempts if it is a warm reboot (I have installed nosound.tcl so it does it automatically, but it can take half an hour to get it booted if I don't unplug it for a while first!) Our main TiVo boots much more reliably since upgrading to altepg1.0d, which I'm putting down to the shorter cachecard initialisation putting less strain on the power supply - this problem is more common in TiVos with extra hardware such as cachecards fitted.

Try pressing AUX on the TiVo remote. If you still don't have sound then it's more likely that either one of the SCART cables is at an angle (not fully pushed in) or that the set-top-box isn't producing any sound (e.g. it's muted).

If no sound from either live TV or Tivo recordings, sounds like a scart cable issue between Tivo and the TV. Make sure all the scart cables are plugged all the way in at both ends! (They are a nightmare and regularly work themselves loose).
