No sound on Sky or TiVo recordings

There's a bundle of wires coming from the PSU - one part plugs into the motherboard, and the other part plugs into the disc drive(s).

So after replacing the PSU there is no change and I now have a black bar against every recording. Is this because the sky digibox isn't coming on? Autostandby was off so I have put it on, but I tend to think it aught to be set at off.
Have also repeated guided set up which made no difference.

Do you mean the status bar at the bottom of the screen during playback?

The TiVo will not record if there is no incoming signal, so yes you need to have your Digibox powered on all the time.

Yes o all the above. The digibox was set to autostandby off - is this correct? IN which case it is still powering off. Is it a faulty box? (Had to replace one a few months ago so got this on ebay).

Ok, one step at a time. Switch the digibox on. Watch live TiVo - do you get picture + sound?

If yes:
Wait 5 minutes. Go backwards on 'live' tv - do you get picture + sound. (This tests the 'live buffer' recording)

If yes:
Press record to record whatever is currently on the tv. Wait 5 minutes. Play that recording back from Now Showing - do you get picture + sound?

After all the hassle of replacing the PSU I have found the sat aerial cable had come adrift from the digibox, so having got that connected I am waiting to see recordings coming in in the next half an hour.

Sadly I am back to getting video and no sound - square one - what now?

What are your responses to the 'tests' I suggested?

At that point I got no picture or sound because the satellite cable wasn't connected to the digibox. I did one more reboot and then a recording came in with picture and sound, time will tell if this state continues.

Just checked after a day away and the whole blue TiVo screen was flickering so rebooted. Then tried the 5 programmes it had tried to record. 2 were a psychedelic array of pixels, one hadn't recorded but 2 had recorded perfectly.

That sounds more like a problem with your sky box/dish. Try watching sky directly (i.e. without the TiVo) on the channel which had psychedelic picture and see if this effect recurs.

IU don't know which channel it was - deleted now- its a symptom I have seen several times on TiVo over the years, though has always been intermittent.

Finally around 5 programmes in a row have successfully recorded. As usual with this kind of thing I have no idea what the actual solution was.
