Sound problems - PSU??

Postby philg » Thu Feb 13, 2020 6:34 pm

My TiVo is connected via SCART (only) to a Sky box

Periodically (like every day or two) the input loses sound. I still get "bong" sounds and I can still play back recordings with sound

BUT live TV and new recordings are both silent

Everything reverts to normal after a reboot - until next time

Something at the back of my memory is hinting that this is a symptom of a failing PSU - is that right?

I USED to have problems where UHF (remember that) sound would sometimes be missing after a reboot, but this is SCART input sound that disappears after a while

Thanks for any wise words (as it happens I have hoarded a spare TiVo PSU just in case, but don't want to use it if this is something else)

Cheers all

When live tv sound is missing do you get sound if you go to "Aux" bypass?

Do you have spare scart cables you can try, to eliminate a failing cable problem?

I’ll check the Aux thing next time it happens

If it was a cable issue, I’d lose the bongs as we’ll surely and sound on pre-recorded shows?

Not if it was the incoming cable from Sky/Sony box ;-)

My cat thought it was hilarious to go prowling behind the TiVo and stand on the scart cables so they partially fell out. Oh yes v. funny pusskins :-(

Oh THAT SCART!

I'll take a look (if I can get behind everything)

some tivos did do this. one of mine does it.
Normally the live sound will be missing after a reboot or power failure, I have to keep re booting until the sound is restored, perhaps twice but sometimes more.
I fitted a new power supply and that did not cure this.
