I'd considered that too - that wouldn't be very nice of them!

What would be nice is if they sent out a final message directing people to http://www.altepg.com/ but I suspect Virgin would get upset if they did that!

What might be nice to know is if Healeydave intends to let his own Tivo phone for the last official update. I know he has intimated he has signed an NDA agreement but i doubt if it extends to whether he would let his own Tivo become bricked. :)

The latest System Message from Tivo dated 27/05 reads as follows:-

On 01/06/2011 Tivo will begin discontinuing service for your Tivo box. To take advantage of the new Tivo service with Virgin Media visit www.virginmedia.com/tivo.............


"Tivo will begin discontinuing service" is a new phrase in the System Messages they have been sending us about the switch off and suggests to me that there will be no further daily call updates provided after May 31st or June 1st but that your Tivo will be able to continue to use the EPG data it already has at that stage to record things up to June 11th on the main terrestrial channels or June 21st for satellite channels like CBS Action etc that have 21 days advance data in the EPG.

If they sent any final update at all it would I'm sure to be to release the nag message that your Tivo is out of data so that you can just use it as a basic hard drive VCR using Pick Programmes To Record and Record By Time Or Channel. Although for this to work properly they would need to provide end user access to channel number and name maintenance. Perhaps a software update that allows that is fairly unlikely though. Turning off the nag screens is one of the extended options already shown in System Information if you have a Cachecard installed in your Tivo although there is no end user menu provided to turn the setting on or off. But obviously this suggests that Tivo can alter the setting for the nag screens in the daily data update if they want to.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it. One test call to the altepg server and, assuming your tivo service number is registered in our database, your account status is back to Tivo Internal Testing.
