My ALTEPG TiVo has 'gone mad'

Postby rickynumber18 » Mon May 30, 2011 7:36 am

Hi there. My TiVo, which I converted over to ALTEPG last week, has gone mad. I think it might have been taken over by a poltergeist! No problems at all pre ALTEPG but post it's rebooting randomly whilst watching or in 'Now Playing', turning its self on for no reason (this happens mostly in the late evening for some reason). I turn it off to only have it then turn its self back on again. The TiVo has scart control so it takes my TV off whatever I'm actually watching. I'm also finding my remote commands have slowed down a lot. I've installed new batteries but it's no better. Scrolling up and down has a serious delay. Anyone else got similar problems or advice? Thanks.

PS: My Kernel shows as below.

For a random switch on...

May 29 20:53:37 (none) kernel: CodeFromNec(33cc9760) is meaningless
May 29 20:53:38 (none) kernel: IRPACK_SONY20 disabled
May 29 20:54:11 (none) last message repeated 4 times
May 29 20:54:22 (none) last message repeated 14 times

and for a random reboot...

May 30 07:14:53 (none) kernel: Tmk Assertion Failure:
May 30 07:14:53 (none) kernel: BlockFailure, line 1771 ()
May 30 07:14:53 (none) kernel: Tmk Fatal Error: Thread tivosh <200> died due to signal -2

Thinking of tivosh, does that indicate the cause of the error is a third party addon / hack causing the error?

If yes, it might be worth removing them from the startup script.

Such action as helped someone else's box behave...

Mine did this originally. I did a 'delete guide data' (not a full delete) which seems to have fixed it for me.

So, it's worth a try. Otherwise you may need to do a full delete.

I just stopped Tivowebplus from starting from rc.sysinit.author and that fixed it for me. I have yet to investigate what was going wrong.
