Alpha Tester - Getting hideous reboots

Since I re-ran standard Tivo setup (after delete & clear everything) and then ran the AltEPG setup with just a guided setup my box has been ok.

Uptime now 1d 10h 40m 01s and tverr only has one entry rather than hundreds

I never had any shopping channels set and the removal from the guide of blank channels did not stop the rebooting.

I have more recordings set now than before (season passes) but less wish lists (only two the moment rather than about 12).

Of course, very shortly it will not be possible to run a Clear & Delete and run a standard Tivo setup.....

Don't forget that while recording the shopping channels might be unusual, watching them live isn't, so you need them in the Live TV guide, even as summary content.

So was planning on trying this for the first time today (via network)
Have already changed dial in config code to 127 to check if my tivo was on the system, and got status 4 ok.

Now I don't want to do a "Clear and Delete everything", but is there any advantage to doing a "Clear programme data & todo list" prior to repeating guided setup to avoid the chances of these reboots?

I expect I'll be going down this route, been archiving all the recordings onto a MCE, just got to go through the SP's now and make a note of them all.

I've not joined (have registered though) altEPG as I didnt want to add to the modem issue for now and leave the modem time for the alpha's as I've still got a few weeks EPG on ours.

I'm now experience the frequent reboots as well. They occur every couple of minutes or so. I converted over to AltEPg last night after converting my SPs to wishlists. I did not clear and delete everything, just thumbs and suggestions. Everything appeared to go OK but this morning the Tivo had frozen and required a power off/on.

It doesn't stay up long enough to do very much although I have managed to remove all the "channels I receive" that have no EPG data. It won't stay up long enough to run a daily call.

I would prefer not to delete all programme data but I'm stuck as to what to try next. Any suggestions please?

I see you are getting the same errors as in viewtopic.php?f=8&t=560

With tivosh getting upset rather than the scheduler

It would seem rebooting issues are becoming more widespread and also looks like your one want to perform a file system check.

Thinking of tivosh, does that indicate the cause of the error is a third party addon / hack causing the error?

If yes, it might be worth removing them from the startup script.

Many thanks Automan. I commented out all the hacks in rc.sysinit.author and the reboots have stopped. I suspect it will be Tivowebplus that is the culprit although I'm not sure why that should start playing up. I'll enable the other hacks first and see what happens.

I am getting far fewer reboots now, even with me adding back the channels that have no AltEPG programmes.

I am guessing that is because more and more channels are coming online with AltEPG programme data.

I have a suspicion that wishlists set to autorecord that include the wildcard "*" character - generated by pressing the "single frame skip" button under the yellow pause button on the peanut when entering the wishlist text may also exacerbate the problem.

I have removed those types of autorecord wishlists from my setup and the reboots seem to be happening far less than before.

Does anyone else who is/was having these continual reboots have wildcard autorecord wishlist searches ?

- everything seemed OK for a start, but the TiVo kept rebooting every few minutes, whether it was being used or not.
- did 'clear program data & todo list'. This did not need the guided setup to be re-done, I just did a manual daily call after the data was cleared.
- everything now seems fine (uptime currently 6d 6h) and it is using the altepg data (eg series/episode numbers are there)

(Well, I say everything is fine, but TivoWeb won't show me the 'Now Playing' list, but that's only a minor thing for now.)

Cool thanks. In case you didn't try already, you would definitely need to do a full restart of TiVoweb. This also applies if you ever add/remove channels in Channels I Receive. (Tivoweb indexes and caches your channel/favourites choices when starting).

Since clear & delete everything, setup for Tribune epg followed by run guided setup for altepg I have had no reboots....

I don't think we know that tivoweb caused the reboots? I just wanted to point out that after running GS, every time you change your channel selections or favourites in Channels I Receive, and after the change to/from BST in April and October, you need to perform a full restart of tivoweb otherwise it'll get upset. If your tivo reboot sequence starts tivoweb and you rebooted the tivo, that'll do it too of course.

So last night I did a "Clear thumbs etc" -> "clear programme data etc" - > guided setup (probably a bit overkill but never mind)
Added about 30-odd "channels I receive" during the guided setup, (being careful not to add any that don't appear in "the list" on the other thread)

After leaving it for a while, added more channels plus a few season passes and wishlists and no signs of a reboot so far!

Like people have said, tivoweb threw a fit (at trying to do a search) but seems to be bit better behaved now.
