As with the example of Exa-Networks new line provisioning being delayed by the service provider, sometimes these things are not in your own hands, I suspect TiVo were at the mercy of similar circumstances and 1st June was just a target date.

Then why did you forecast we would still have EPG service for our Tivos up to the start of July.

I've got guide data to July on my tivo. When did you last do a daily call?

Until the start of July as Dave forecast. But that is not true for the main terrestrial channels.

Also why does Dave now say the dialup Tivo service only carried on to June 13th due to telco delays in termination given his previous forecast that we would all benefit from the official Tivo EPG until at least the start of July.

He didn't say or promise either of those things.

Give it a rest Pete - why are you being deliberately belligerent?

I'm not deliberately belligerent. Its just that I have a journalistic type mind (I look at all the political and policy factors at work in what has happened) whilst you have a technical person's mind (i.e. you look at what needs to be done technically to continue to provide us with an EPG service and take the view that why we have been cut off is little interest to you).

At the end of the day if Tivo had cut off service from the start of June 2nd onwards as their message implied there would have been less questions and less speculation.

Also it was Dave's choice to tell us he was subject to an NDA with Tivo. In his position I don't think I would have done so in writing in a place quite as public as a forum.

I just did a test call across the 'net and I'm still showing "Account in good standing" which not only means that I have network access to Tivos servers but that they have also validated my Tivo serial number and are quite happy to talk to me!

Haven't tried a full call, so I have no idea if there is any more guide data to come - that's my chore for tomorrow (the dentist beckons this afternoon :? )

If anyone else has time to do a real call across the 'net, it would be helpful to know if any more guide data was forthcoming

So far as I am concerned, if Tivo inc keep allowing me to connect AND they validate my serial number, then they must be happy for me to continue..... :)

Fair enough but he didn't say "the dialup Tivo service only carried on to June 13th due to telco delays in termination" as you claim - what he said was "sometimes these things are not in your own hands, I suspect TiVo were at the mercy of similar circumstances". You made the (speculative) assumption that the service only continued due to telco delays. As a journalistic type mind you should know better than to fabricate facts like that ;)

I'm not divulging anything that is now not obvious from the circumstances.
Clearly, Tivo's target date was the 1st of June as that is what they stated and the fact that the lines have not gone off until the 13th would probably be a Service Provider schedule I suspect (as previously stated).

However they could just have deactivated all the UK Series 1 service numbers as from June 2nd by making them Account Closed had they wanted to be in control of the situation themselves. Also whilst their telco contractor may take a few days to carry out an instruction they clearly would not carry out an instruction they had not yet been given by their client.

Closing off the dial up access by S1 Tivos ought to have only been a secondary belt and braces step.

The fact the service could continue after June 1st also shows that they still had the EPG data from Tribune to support it and that we are only being cut off at the contractual behest of Mr Berkett and his cronies (such as Sir Richard Branson) at Virgin Media.

I will be interested to see if my networked Tivo is able to obtain any new EPG data when it connects to the Tivo servers at 8pm this evening.

I see this number is listed at www.argonet.co.uk/support/news/Message980825.html but clearly still seems to belong to UUNet.

No I said that I only tried the 0800 and 0808 numbers and showed the result for each of those.

I explicitly stated that I had not tested any of the 0845 numbers because of my dislike of the revenue rake off associated with those numbers and the fact that they are not part of my daytime calls package.

As UUNet stands to make money rather than lose money on the 0845 number (as it can be self funded from the calls rather than needing to be paid for by Tivo as the 0808 number does) perhaps they will not mind keeping it in service given that calls to the number should provide them with a revenue stream.

I have just made a manually forced Daily Call on my Cachecarded Tivo at 5.40pm today (Tuesday June 14th) and it has collected another substantial slug of data (presumably two days worth given that no new data is available on a Monday) and is currently Loading it and is at 41% with another 12 minutes to go.

Of course it may well still be the case that in a few more days time all UK S1 Service numbers will no longer be able to get data updates from the Tivo's systems.
