Thanks Dave. I just posted a message on the main site to see if we can blag some spare Tivos for playing with. How are "we" off for network cards - do we need to order some TurboNZets or do you and Mike have 'stock'? ;)

Great, because I suspect the demand will be significantly higher and require us to provide a UK version of the NLEmulator :-)

I'll make some pre-slice data available tomorrow so you can look at the format. If we're going to do it, it may be an ideal opportunity to do it right and see if we can do slices better.

Hi Guys

Been a lurker for years. Had 2 tivos since 2001... still in daily use and really sad about the news. Both mine are equipped with nics and bigger disks. I'm a bit of a geek, and work for an ISP. We have our own datacentre, and I run the network. I've resources I can donate to the greater good here... I've lots of bandwidth, and room to host whatever we need to get an alternative EPG up and running. Glad to help in any way possible. Dave - if you need more space or better web hosting for the forum, let me know.

Thanks TJE,

I bought all my hosted stuff in-house (aka home) as the traffic was nominal.
It seems to be holding up right now, but if necessary, going back to a proper host with a decent bandwidth might be prudent :-)
I'm sure we will need a decent service to serve out he data sliced when we get to that stage!

I have some of the more expensive cachecards still in stock at the moment.
When we make some progress, we can evaluate if it will be preferable to use NIC's (I suspect it will be) and perhaps look to getting stock of the cheaper TurboNet clones.

I read that it is possible to still use the modem, using an ISP's DUN, which is kinda all the Tivo system uses anyway, dials an Internet Point Of Present and then routes through to the Tivo Servers.

If we've got the time, we can pull XML data into an SQL database and make corrections to the data. Maybe even use some crowd sourcing techniques to make it easier to deal with issues like the infamous tennis or F1 moving channels. The pre-slice data is in pure text files, so quite easy to squirt out.

I think I played with XMLTV a long time ago, but I'm not sure because I can remember very little about it.

I think I experimented with it when I was playing with EyeTV on the Mac.

How much guide data is the XMLTV grabber able to get?

It might be sweet to populate a database that can be client accessed, thus enabling a team of people to be able to make amendments that could propagate through. Imagine all those "EPG Head's Up" forum messages being transformed into an actual correction, the community EPG could end up being better than the Tivo's own Tribune supplied data, heheh :-)

Saying a "migrated from the community" hello.
I have 3 working TiVos.
I can use one of them for testing - can't remember what it's config is though so will need to open it up. The other 2 are in daily use and won't please the wife if I start hacking them again.
As for coding skills, a little perl scripting is all I can offer :-(

For guide data of the BBC channels is their Programmes info any use?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/developers
(This derived from the backstage project which ran from 05-10)
should be the most accurate BBC data as is updated daily.

Hi all, first check in like others here. Sad news that TiVo is stopping the S1 service.

I have experience (but not recent) unix csh script writing, and some vba. I've built hundreds of PCs and have upgraded my TiVo numerous times and added all the usual hacks. I don't mind doing testing either.

In addition to my naim TiVo, I have a spare unmodified (and unloved) TiVo sitting in the garage that I don't mind donating to the cause.

I'm located in south Derbyshire.

The whole family don't want to lose TiVo. 2 units up and running, one networked.

Would be happy to help with testing. I have a computing background and am quite at home in the Unix/Linux environment.

Hope that the combined expertise out there can find a workable solution.
Keep the faith...

I did float this idea before in one thread (on TiVo Community), if and only if, we need to have hosting of server/s, we could provide this in our datacentre at possibly cost. We run cloud based, virtualization servers and apps, out of UK Datacentre, with peering into UK. (under Xen - so any server possible)

As a commercial business, it would be difficult to offer for free. It's an idea.

But one community user, did then offer FREE.

(it's on the table, if were needed). Paid service would probably interest non-lifers, but I'm not too sure, how many lifers would feel to pay for a new EPG service.

Anyway a bit of background about me, own four TiVos, 2 Networked, and 2 non networked. Since 2000, confident TiVo hacker, long term IT Geek, Current EE Rank 4 Overall (this year), No.1 VMware.

Virtualisation (VMWare/Xen) our my core skills, datacentre, internet, all things Microsoft, based in Yorkshire, have Pronto remote somewhere as well.
