Some info for Pete here.

VM do not charge me to call the 0845 number - but do charge me to call the 020 number as it lists as an ISP line.

Sorry I tried to not respond to this tripe but in the end couldn't help myself.

The school I went to is one of those that Pete77 claims is 15 years behind the times, the same school that is consistently in the top 2% of UK state schools at GCSE and A-Level, and if you want to see the exam results that come out of a school 15 years behind the times then have a look here, it will put you southerners to shame ;-)

Yep, satellite channels data until 6th July now on the Tribune service. NB: but no C4 data this time.

ozsat,

Did you have an inclusive calls plan that should have covered all normal calls to 020 numbers at the time of day that your Tivo called it? I suppose its not impossible that they also exclude known 01/02/03 numbers from call plans on the basis that dialup internet on an 0808 number usually costs at least £6 per month for 20 hours or so and that an Anytime calls package can be as little as about £3.50 per month with some phone providers. The 0845 number certainly should be caught the same way as the 020 number but its all down to how actively each number is used for internet use at to whether the telcos have yet spotted that is its purpose in life and have it on their list of excluded numbers. Clearly its not exactly difficult for them to confirm this though as when it is dialled you get a modem tone instead of someone or some call queuing machine talking at you.

As a further point of interest I have an account with the cheap calls provider http://www.18185.co.uk where you can make a call of several hours length (not just limited to 60 minutes) on a BT Line or Post Office Homephone line to any 01/02/03 area code number by adding the prefix 18185 before you call and I have successfully made a daily call and retrieved data to the 020 number by putting 18185 plus the 020 number in my dial prefix code. As 18185 routes their calls around the world and back to the UK again by voip I wasn't necessarily expecting that this would work. However at a guaranteed 5p per call per day or £18.25 per year (x365) this may also be another possible option for some here.

Pete, read what he said. VM know the 020 number is an ISP line so they exclude it from their call package. This is not uncommon. Clearly, they haven't picked up the 0845 number (yet).

My package is all calls to 01, 02 and 03 at anytime.

They refunded the money to 020 as they couldn't show me where the ISP exception was - but the 0845 never showed up.

So at the end of the day we can't be sure that EXA Networks new Tivo 01 numbers won't end up being classified as ISP dialup numbers and excluded from call packages
.
The fact that they are a known ISP rather than these merely being some lines that healeydave has ordered up at his home must give more potential concerns in that direction.

Could easily be a private fax or modem answering.

True.

In reality I think ISP numbers are probably mainly identified by the company the line belongs to and the average duration of inbound calls to those numbers. Lots and lots of calls of a couple of hours duration to a phone number from lots of different callers probably suggests an ISP even though lots and lots of calls two hours long from one number might just suggest a mother or a mother in law.

<strike>Just a thought, using a company like voipfone [I am not connected with them in anyway apart from purchasing one of their services]

anyone can create an STD no and direct it to a 01 number that we end up using. I use this service for faxredirection.

This new STD no. would be unique and therfore not tagged as a ISP Dialup. It would cost about £2/mnth to do this</strike>

EDIT: In fact, this might not work - and I dont have time to investigate it, if it does :)

However, from what has been said the current EXA 0845 number that people have been using is not been billed currently, that number has existed for many years and if it is not showing as a dialup now, I cant image it will. Time will tell.
