Do they still brand it all as Pipex despite the takeover?

Even if they do its likely that they will have still put you on TalkTalk LLU equipment if its a TalkTalk LLU'ed exchange (which it will be unless you live in a village in the countryside).

My line is with PostOffice HomePhone who use BT Wholesale for everything but I still don't know whether or not I'm being charged for these 0845 or 020 numbers in the evening or at the weekend when I am meant to have free calls to normal 01/02/03 and 0845 voice phone numbers. I used to have online account access at one stage but as they also send out paper bills and it was hard to access I also have forgotten how to use it.

Yes, I get a Pipex logo'd bill. And yes the exchange has LLU.

That's two of us need to get to our online bills then! :wink:

You should be able to use 1280 but may not see any improvement and it will be billed by Pipex. 1280 will divert the call over BT lines but because BT have no facilities to bill you the call will be redirected back to Pipex!

@pete, this may apply to your situation:

a call pre-fixed with 1280 will connect in the normal way, but it will NOT be chargeable to a BT bill. It will actually be charged by your own Call Provider (and this could be at a higher rate). It will also NOT count towards the necessary calls quota to receive either BT Caller Display1 or BT Answer 15712 at no extra cost.

Just forced a daily call (network) and got BBC data for another week (up to 6am Sat 2nd July) :D Image

And I've had a normal daily call to 0207 in the night, and have data to 9 July - that 0207 line has some weird opening hours!! :shock:

It seems more like not all the modems that answer this number are set up to understand Tivo's unauthenticated PPP session data protocol. Or perhaps the facility was supposed to be completely disabled like it has been on the 0808 number but instead it has only been partially disabled.......

Ah, yes, that makes sense. So if we get a failed call, either wait and see if the next call works, or force a call if you are impatient. One user said he had tried for hours though.

I wonder if its perhaps the case that the first line or two on these numbers can't talk Tivo so only when the bank of modems is busy do you hit a line that Tivo can communicate with.

Not a bad idea but (a) one or two of us would be still unlucky and (b) Tivo software doesn't allow you to control the call time except in the form of Make Daily Call Now

For anyone calling repeatedly I think one should point out that the phone line is actually being answered each time so this could get rather expensive if they end up being charged for these 0845 or 020 calls on the basis that it is a known ISP number and not a normal phone number.

Yes, I was only joking. If the modems all became engaged at the same time, that would probably raise an alarm or an incident report, so let's keep our heads down.

Just checked my online BT bill. Even with anytime calls I get charged for 02079061000. Test call was. 29 seconds and cost 15p, daily call 1 minute 20 seconds and cost 17p. Haven't tried 0845 number yet, will do though!

Or just that some of the old modems fail to negotiate from time to time. It used to happen a lot back in the days of dialup internet, easy to forget what it was like then. You have a 10 year old modem connecting over a phone line remember.

Official tivo number is back working again :D Just got data up to 9th july
