A Big Thank You To The Guys Who Made AltEPG Possible.

Postby Elijay » Fri Jun 03, 2011 8:13 am

I would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this project.

I have owned my Tivo for ten years and I couldn't imagine life without it.

I am looking forward to many happy years of enjoying Tivo TV Heaven.

I want to add my thanks to everyone involved in this project.

And pass on a thank you from my very grateful parents who where devastated when the announcement was made to end the Tivo service and who are now happily looking forward to many more years of simple programme recording :)

I was about to start a Thank You thread, and found this, so may I just tag along?

Thank You so much to everyone who's worked to get this project to such and advanced and polished stage.

My Tivos get another stay of execution. Pretty good going that a 10 year old box runs rings around anything else I've used on all usability aspects.

Shame the picture quality is beginning to look a bit old hat compared to Sky HD direct via HDMI, but hey, can't blame you guys for that!

Yes I agree. It is about time we thanked those folks who have worked hard to make this happen.

I only had a couple of hickups (from the iso image):
1. (40GB drive too small...swap file size issue)
2. Cachecard network settings not set/remembered (solved by telneting the image's nic utility)

Both issues resolved in earlier posts.

Again thanks to the community who posted these fixes.

Hats off to alpha testers but particularly the developers (oh, and Dave for letting us meet here).

Great stuff!

PS why has no-one managed to better Tivo's user interface in the past 10 years???

I know you said it was answered, but just in case, the ISO will restore to a 40Gb drive, you just need to set the swap file to 64 like the original image and even if you get an error at the end, thats only because the command line switches for mfstool try to expand all drives by default and there is no expansion possible with a 40gb drive. It won't stop the image from working.
Keeping the dream alive.

@yungee - picture quality can be improved (not to HD) by using Mode 0 and incresaing the bitrates - it is noticeable, but it will take more disk space

I have changed over several of my friends machines to AltEPG and will shortly be completing the last one. Where possible, I have set these to the 'network' option and the process has been very successful. Many thanks on behalf of my friends and myself to all those who have worked to make this possible.

I too want to add my thanks to all who have made this possible.... I have still to find ANY DVR/PVR, that comes close to the useability of the TiVo software, and really am amazed that nobody took tivo on as a mass product for the UK. Anyway thanks again, and im well chuffed with my machine, now up and running on the altepg software, along with the 'tweeks' within the software. :D

I would like to also add my support to this big 'Thank You' to the people who spent time and effort to keep the old Tivos running. Great job well done.

A big thank you from me as well. :D :D :D

My other half was devistated that her beloved Tivo would end up being scrapped but you guys have made her very happy. If she's happy then I'm happy.

Thanks again.

And a plus one from me. Is there a way to contribute to the beer and pizza fund?
