I for one owe you many many beers for that thing. Absolutely brilliant utility.

Me too - best function that TiVo never had (properly). Many thanks. :)

Hello Dave,

I am Happy to supply one of my TiVo's to whoever will be at the sharp end of the development of an alternative EPG, I am assuming one will be needed for test purposes rather than screw around with an 'in-use' TiVo.

Just checking in to see how I can be of help.

Have got networked S1 Tivo + freeview.

Am ancient computer programmer/analyst with experience of html and javascript, also sql perl and php. For my sins I wrote the xTivoweb add on for tivoweb so have dabbled with TCL (and have a manual).

Hi Johalareewi and all those newcomers in the last few days, nice to see you here.
Its amazing how many names I recognise from several years of tivo'ing.

The skills of benefit for the project direction we are going in will be PERL (mainly), some JAVA & SQL and of-course LINUX.

If you have already posted proficiency in these area's, please don't feel like your being ignored, from my point of view, we are on the cusp of the hill, waiting on some information before we have a clearer view of the landscape ahead.
Keeping the dream alive.

Fantastic to see this happening - thank you all for your efforts..

I have 35 years IT experience, but not Linux I'm afraid - mainly ICL mainframes, DOS and Windows; C, Pascal, various assemblers, bit of PHP and MySQL. I doubt if I can contribute to development, but am happy to be part of the testing and review team as and when it gets to that stage.

Agree about the non-commercial approach, but am happy to make donations or whatever you may call them to keep the EPG going.

Series 1 with 120Gb disc but otherwise unmodified. Quite prepared to get a Turbonet card though if that's what it takes.

Thanks again.

Happy to put my hand up for anything I can be useful with - have a number of TiVos available for testing and a certain amount of experience with web hosting, SQL, and the editing, use and abuse of TV listings. Nothing that isn't here already, but happy to lend a hand if it's handy. :)

Old tivo hacker (never released anything very useful but did cross-compile a few utilities such as "screen"). I can probably get my old cross-compile environment working again.

Former C programmer and fairly experienced TCL hacker. Nowadays only programming as a hobby, contributing to various open source projects. But my wife and I never watch TV in real-time -- I am highly motivated to either keep my Tivo running or find a viable (preferably open source) alternative! Of course I have my Tivo recordings backed up to my Linux server every day in case the Tivo hardware dies but I can't manage without Season Passes!

I currently pay for Digiguide, which I use to keep an eye out for things I might want to add to my Tivo season passes. Although I had a lifetime sub for my Tivo I would not object to paying a monthly sub for the Alternative Tivo EPG.

I'd be interested in hearing more about that. I was looking for an older Linux distro with a compatible kernel level, but cross-compiling would be just as good. Not something I've done before, as I've always developed on the boxes I've been given.

Willing to help with development. Have been working on embedded systems for the last 20 years. Very low-level RTOS developments, Linux hacking, device drivers, script fiddling, STBs, PVRs, etc. I have Linux, MacOSX and Windoze dev machines.

My TiVo related development (other than local hacking): Did the initial implementation of the secure (back-channel) tunnel for the S1 and S2 for the gotomydvr site. So still have my S1 (and S2) cross-compilation world.

Have a "spare" S1 (networked, cache-card) for development use (other S1 is still connected to an old non-HD Sky box and being used even as I type :-).

Aside: I also use a Pronto, so if some I/R codes need to be grabbed I am based in Cambridge.

Hi,

Just been directed over from tivocommunity.com. Unix and Linux Sysadmin 15+ years. Perl, Shell/Bash, XML aware. Crap with a soldering iron. Subversion, Apache, Kickstart, Cobbler, Puppet.

Loads more detail on LinkedIn http://uk.linkedin.com/in/stevebutton

Just busy with three kids + lots of overtime, but would like to do something to help here.

Hello!
Popped along to offer my services and join the effort to keep this product alive.
Avid TiVo user for the past 10 years and can undertake some testing with my networked box.

Programmer by trade, but unfortunately my experience is mainly windows-based. Only areas I think I can be of use in are SQL, XML, web and web-services. Currently employed at Citrix as a UI engineer for XenClient.

Cheers,
Rob

Willing to help how ever I can. It's fantastic to see the breadth of skills being offered to the New Tivo Project! I don't really have any technical skills but have had an S1 for about 10 years which was fitted with a cache card about 5 years ago which I've hardly been able to use as I could never get it to work with our network properly. So like others, have been using dial-up to get the EPG.

I have been a Mac end-user for 22 years or so, which I am not sure counts for anything, but there you go...

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to add my voice in support of the project. My brother still has a S1 unit; as do my parents, though theirs isn't being used right now. So that's two "in the wild" machines available, if nothing else :)

I'm sorry to say that I really don't think I'm going to be a lot of use on the project as I really don't have anything to offer, skill-wise; ie not a programmer, can't offer any hosting space, etc.

If you need any sort of non-techy assistance though, I'm happy to help. Maybe to write some documentation or something? Anyway, the offer's there.

Good luck.

Programmer available.

I know Linux rather well and can code in C (Good), Perl (ok), SQL (iffy), TCL (ok) and a whole raft of others that won't be of any use at all.

Been looking at the Project Request area for things to pick up but not much is being posted. Just give me a shout and I'll try anything thats needed.

cheers
