Help with epg download please

I have a series 1 tompson tivo and I am currently experiencing problems with downloading the epg via my telephone connection, the tivo "locks up" with the yellow and green lights on and will not respond to any hand control requests. The only way I can rectify the problem is to switch off the tivo and then on again. When I look at the phone connection information on the setup page, it tells me that it was unsuccessfull in making a call. This only occurs occassionally and to the best of my knowledge when has happened the phone line has not been in use. Could you advise me if there are any steps I can take to avoid this happening? Also, is it possible to select a time that a epg download takes place, I would like to set it up to take place during the night?

Have you done a clear and delete everything ?

Also which number are you using 0161 or 0845 ?

You can set the times it dials if you use the altEPG image, you cant via an orginal TiVo image

Thanks for your suggestions, I am using the 0161 dial up number, havn't tried the clear & delete everything.

There have been report of problems on the 0161 number (search the forum if you want the details) so try the 0845 number. The downside is the 0845 number is generally charged for on calling plans as the teleco's know it is an internet number (again the forum has threads on potential costs).

I an currently experiencing a problem with download of EPG and the subsequent "loading of data."

I am running the original Tivo software - with dial-up connecting to the 0161 number.

My last successful download was 9:44 pm on Wednesday.

Last night's automatic download failed resulting in an error message: "Failed while loading series."

I carried out a manual dial-up just after lunch today: when I checked up, it had failed with the same error message.

Attempting another download, I initiated the 'phone call at 1:20 pm. After a 'phone connection
of 13 minutes, loading data commenced, and a couple of minutes later, the same error message
appeared.

Would this indicated a problem with my HDD?

For anyone who might be interested, and for the future:

After over a dozen or so forced dial-ups, which always suffered the same failure message, I decided
to use Kickstart in order to initiate a GSOD. Once the clean-up had completed after approx. 3 hours,
the problem/error no longer existed.
