All working well for a month, now 23 failed calls in a row!

Postby dsbowskill » Tue Sep 18, 2012 12:27 am

I think the subject summarises it neatly. My tivo can't connect anymore and I'm now out of data :-(

*nothing* changed my end. I've unplugged and replugged the line and tried again, but to no avail.

Here's the call log. Always fails after trying to get the 4th slice:

Hi there - I'm having dial up issues again myself.

Call connects fine and the status of "Downloading" appears butafter a while it fails with "Failed. Call Interrupted". I'm out of data now too.

Is there a nissue with the dialup currently for others?

Thanks,
Gary.

The 08450800300 number has received an unexpectedly high number of calls over the last few days. That might mean that there is a problem with one of the modems on that number (causing TiVos to re-dial after failure). If you're having a problem with dial-up and are using 08450800300 please try the alternative number (01612329094) and see if that resolves it.

Thanks for the advice - a little wary on the costs of the 0161 number based on other comments.

A very helpful chap called Jamie came along last time and applied a mallet to the problematic 0845 modem for me. He actually asked me to PM him directly if I had any further issue. I've done that again now, so we will see.

All the best,
Gary.

I have the same issue.
Call connects fine and the status of "Downloading" appears but after a while it fails with "Failed. Call Interrupted".
I now have one very unhappy Mrs. :(

Hehheh, my missus is also in a state of torment. It is funny because when the mystical silver box first arrived approx 11 years ago, she was not that bothered aside from the fact that it was a "bit cluttery" sitting under the telly. She's changed her tune now though - TiVo is an important part of the family; probably seen as more important than me and she couldn't live without it :D

I have passed on the update that there is possibly some modem issue and hopefully it will be resolved soon.

All the best,
Gary.

*update*

I can report that the 0161 number works, I now have completed the dial in process successfully but, and this is weird. Still no new data :(

---
*Second Update*

0845 number still no completing properly, but I am now getting new data on 0161! My tivo is happy again. :-)

Exactly Gary, of all the gadgets and tech that has come and gone in our house over the years, Tivo is the most loved. If the silver box ever gives up the ghost we may well be moving back to a Virgin Media area

Update from me too: Last night I was also able to successfully use the 01612329094 number to download. Once this completed, I switched back to the 0845 and the test call completed successfully. However, it sounds like there is still an issue with it actually downloading data. I would like to continue to use the 0845 as it's much cheaper.

TiVo, missus and me all happy again - thank you for the ongoing service :D

All the best,
Gary.

Peace is restored to my household!

Thanks.

Hi.

Still no joy on 0845; just tried 0161 and it works.

Bigger mallet?

I only connect my TiVo to dial 08450800300 when it runs out of data and I've noticed that it seems to be getting less likely that the data is downloaded in one call.

Here's the details of my recent calls:

I think the 3 min 40 sec is down to a network timeout. For some reason the TiVo doesn't seem able to talk to the server. When I dial the 0845 number the tclient log files shows

/tvbin/TClient: Executing HTTP command: /tvbin/http_post /var/log/svclog http://194.1.151.205:80/tivo-service/mlog.cgi OFF OFF ON

followed approx 3 minutes later by

/tvbin/TClient: Failed while POSTing downloaded file stats: timeout waiting for data

Interestingly I was able to telnet to the TiVo via the dialup IP address and successfully ping 194.1.151.205 so the network connection was alive. The problem seems to be with the http_post command.
